I went a long time without playing any online poker at all. I just got tired of all the bad beats. But after having some success in live games i decided to give it another try while watching the playoffs.

I am just playing 1/2 nl (200 max buy in). However i have made $2000 i the last 4 days. And i haven't even played that much, maybe 10-12 hours but i am playing two tables. man there sure are some dumb fish out there.

I'd go ahead and cash out like a grand of that, that way there's no way you can lose it. I play pretty often (live games w/ friends), but for only like $5. I put $50 on Party poker one time and built it up to like 150, then lost it all back on mostly bad beats. There really are some retarded people out there. I actually think the poker sites are skewed so that 2 people get great hands (on cash games) so more money is put into the pot, thus making more money for the dealer. Probably not, but it's my theory.

The crazy thing is, PP gave me a $20 bonus afterwards, so I figured I'd play it and built it up to like 60 bucks. And I was like this ain't my money anyway, so I'll take it to a big table. I doubled up like 3 times and left that table with like ~400. Then I instantly cashed out 300 because I wasn't losing it all back again.

It is probably tough to play being in college and not having a lot of money.

The live game that i have played in a lot is actually illegal here because they have professional dealers and the house takes a cut. They got robbed a couple of months ago. Some guys with guns busted in and made everyone take off their pants. They took the money from the safe and from everyone's wallets. Luckily i wasn't there.

A really good book on poker is Harrington on Hold'em. It is geared towards tournament play but is still a big help.

I am playing at the 1/2 tables so i won't be able to lose money that quickly. I used to play at the 2/4 tables (400 max buy in) and money can go really fast there when you are running bad.

lol that's crazy. Technically all live games that aren't in a casino are illegal though right?

Yeah I know a lot about Poker, I've never read a book on it though. Tourney's are my favorite thing. I don't play like Harrington though, he's too conservative for my taste, I can't do it. I'm tight/aggressive, I'm not one of those loose aggressive idiots that bully's the whole game and ends up getting busted.. The biggest tourney I played in was a 70+ player tourney here in Athens ($25 buyin), and I got 6th.

I know, because you get pissed at some idiot who just called with like 3% odds and hit, it's SO hard to just leave. 3% odds on online poker are more like 25%.

This one bad beat online I raised all in preflop with AA (blinds were huge and I was shortstacked), and some chick reraised allin after like 3 people called. She had AK offsuit, and hits a four card flush with her King. I was pissed to say the least.

That is certainly the perception but what the book does is help you understand the numbers. You don't have to play by the numbers.

One thing i like about the book is that he describes all the different styles of play, the pros and cons.

Keep in mind that in cash games time isn't a problem like it is in a tournament. In a tourney the blinds keep going up so you have to play more aggressively.

Harrington not only won the World Series long ago but he also made the final table in consecutive years not so long ago. I saw him go all in on tv one time on a stone bluff.

I had that same thing happen to me. I also had AA against KK (with a full stack) all in preflop and hit a set. I lost to quad kings.

One time i had KK and bet big preflop and got called by a moron playing Q3. the flop came ragged but he paired his 3 and called my pot sized bet. Then another 3 came out on the turn and he nailed me.

In Georgia that is true. Here in maryland you can play for money as long as the house doesn't get a cut.

Yeah I understand the numbers pretty well, not to an EXACT science, but I always know my number of outs and a rough percentage that I'll win.

Yeah I saw that episode. And those 2 consecutive final tables in those huge fields was a great accomplishment, possibly one of the best ever.

And I know what you're saying, he bluffs, but everyone has too, you can't win without successful bluffing. He's still essentially a conservative player though. It's true that he isn't as conservative as people say, but his perceived status as being conservative helps his case when he bluffs as potential callers are scared away. That can be a good thing, and sometimes a bad thing.
