The shine on Amare is fading

I just do not see how Amare would have helped the Hawks. Seeing as how he is not the player he once was. I think our interior defense would still be bad and seeing as how foul prone Amare is.

I think everyone is starting to notice Amare just isn't the same player he once was. His defense is terrible. He lost the explosion he once had. Most importantly that I have notice. Amare seem to have lost his passion and/or aggressiveness. He is just dominating anyone like he once did. He should be a great rebounded. He goes through his Marvin Williams stages when rebounding. He is still a good player. He is nowhere near the player he once was.

I was dying to get Amare back when the rumors were swirling around draft time. But in the long run I think we'll be happy to have Horford. Horford should be able to dominate the boards and play better defense than Amare throughout his career, plus he seems like a smarter player, a better teammate, a more of a character guy. Horford doesn't have Amare's physical talent, but he might fit into the team concept better and provide more of the dirty work we need in the long run as we go forward with the young nucleus we're building here.

Amare is avaraging 21 points this season compared to 20 points for his career. His rebounding is down by a half but his blocks are up by a half. I think the shine of our win streak has us a little blinded when it comes to our own Big Man. Amare is an elite NBA big - Horford is getting there.

One thing Al needs to do is establish an offensive identity. Last night when he chose to put a three foot floater on a fast break I wondered if Dwight Howard or Amare would have done that. There were a couple of instances where I thought going after the rim like it googled your sister and porn in the same search was the rigth thing to do.

He could also try the Boozer, Jefferson, Brand sweet inside game approach - which I think might be closer to where he will land. He will need to work on his fluidity. He is just a rookie and none of the above players where that offensively polished in their first year.

I honestly don't think it's homerism.

Amare flat out doesn't play D.

Not to mention with the injury he's had, his window of opportunity in this league could be even shorter.

Horford doesn't have to score 20 PPG to be more valuable than Amare to this team. He just has to keep defending. I think at one point he was at the top of the league in points against for an opposing big.

I think they said he was the first player in 10-20 years (I missed the number but they made it sound like it was a big number) who had 20-10 with 4 blocks by halftime. That's pretty impressive and certainly something he has the ability to do probably more often than anyone in the league.
