Admin chillzatl Posted August 10, 2003 Admin Report Share Posted August 10, 2003 the starting lineup for the Falcons looked impressive last night. They ran through the Packers D like exlax through an old lady. That whole unit played like it KNEW it was better than the other team. Can't say much about the 2nd and 3rd string. But that's what pre-season is for.
cyman3
with Mike Vick as the QB. He completed all his passes except for 1 pass. Pretty impressive. The falcons 1st string offense and defense didnt lose a step from last year. cant say the same about 2nd/3rd string. the packers 2nd/3rd string were a lot better than us. FINNERAN's touchdown was one pretty catch!!!

Dukegotgame
That would be George Layne. I believe he is a 3rd yr Fullback. He was drafted by the Chiefs in the fourth round so he obviously had talent, but I believe they cut him and we picked him up. He was really never used much because we had Bob Christian who was very underated, and the nest all around FB in the past 2-3 yrs IMO. He is battling rookie Justin Griffith for the starting spot, however Griffith was injured last night. They are similar players, however I believe Griffith has more talent, but Layne has more expierence which is always an edge when your coach is named Dan Reeves! On to the game last night.... the first string utterly dominanted the packers. The backups didn't do too well as a whole, but some individuals stood out to me. The main problem was the 2nd string O Line. They were just plain horrible. All we could were 2-3 step drop passing routes because we couldn't run and our oline could not hold a block for more than 2 seconds. I think Fred Talley lost his job last night. He had 2 fumbles and couldn't even get a TD from the 1 yd line in two attempts, and on the 2nd attempt he fumbled.
Gray Mule
When the Falcons took out M.V. and went to their back up quarterback, they didn't miss a beat. He is a great Q.B. and a valueable asset to the team. Everyone knows Vick and seem to think that the success or failure of the season is entirely in his hands and legs. Wrong. As great as Vick is, as many things as he brings to the field every game, Falcons can still win with our "Other" Q.B. He is that good! We certainly don't want anything to happen to M.V. He is GREAT!! Doug Johnson got hammered whenever the starters left the field. Falcons looked at a lot of back up players and it wasn't a pretty sight. Hopefully, some of them gained valueable experience and will be able to work thru all the mistakes and when they thin out the ones who don't make the cut, we will end up with a decent second unit. There are many slots to fill on the roster but Q.B. is not one of them. Falcons have the best one, two combination there. I wouldn't trade M.V. & D.J. for any other team's #1 & #2 Q.B.
