Since we got about a week off til the next Hawks game, I just wanted to see how everybody thought Mr. Claxton's speedy recovery was coming along.

Never - he's the Mike Hampton of baseball, folks... and I'm sure all the baseball fans here can agree.

Indeed. ATL sure does shoot themselves in the foot with these contracts for people sittin at home all the time. The Mike Hamptons, Ed Hartwells, and the Speedys of the world piss me off.

I don't know that I care. I'd just like to get something for him.

Hopefully the guy doesn't play a game this season and then retires. That frees up his cap money (if I understand the retirement thing correctly). If he plays, then the Hawks loose the ability to free up the cap space.

Frankly, even if Claxton tries to play this year he'll last 2-4 games and get hurt again.

Atleast Hampton tries to come back. Plus dude can friggin outhit anyone in the Braves outfield. Dude is a competitor one thing you can't say about Speedy who seems to enjoy sitting on the bench unlike Hampton.

I voted for the last option, but my thoughts are:

Speedy is healthy enough, if asked, to try playing.

Since he wouldn't garner minutes (as he isn't full-speed), however, he's been relegated to not playing so that insurance will pay part of his salary.

I suspect that the insurance company would not be inclined to pay unless the medical staff could convincingly document his injury, though, so it's probably one of those razor-thin borderline things.

Of course, I could be dead wrong.
