WHY NOT GET

WHY NOT GET: Gerald Green can be a bargain for a year or more. At best he maybe able to be Joe's replacement if we can't afford Joe. At worst he would sit on the bench or maybe become a commodity to a team that wants a player of his ability. Either Gerald becomes good enough to man the position or Jamal Crawford could give you a similar option with Gerald/Marvin coming off the bench. If he works well within our core and starts to blossom into a true star, great!! I see one if not more of our budding young stars having a true break out season(Josh Smith, Al Horford, Marvin Williams, Jeff Teague, I know it's a reach but maybe Solo could have one in his own right specially if he gets more playing time (he's been in Woody's system for a while now) and develops his game and strength more in the summer. So it would be perfect timing.

WHY NOT: Gerald Green is another athletic guard/forward that is young but placed around other young vets that are emerging stars Joe Johnson(former Celtic Pick),Josh Smith, Al Horford, Marvin Williams, Jamal Crawford, maybe (Josh Childress) will have the opportunity to finally get it. If Woodson's defensive system started sticking in with Green and all our athletic players start having fun with their abilities on the offense and defensive end we can be one of the most unique elite teams in the league. Imagine a defensive scheme to where everyone is responsible for chasing down their man and getting the blocked shot. Jeff Teague can do it, Gerald Green, Josh Smith and Al Horford. Add a Chris Wilcox/Theo Ratliff or both (of course Theo may not be able to chase anyone down but can still block shots on a set defense) and you have the best open court offense/defense in the league. Josh Smith and Gerald Green are two of the most gifted young athletes in the nba(AND YEAH THEY COME IN HANDY).

WHY ASK WHY: All of our young players will continue to get better with none of them being no where near their ceiling right now. Even right now Gerald Green can give you another athletic player to run the wings and catch alleys and another 3 point shooter. An extra scorer on our line up is a plus but add an increasing will/want to play defense with Gerald Green playing with other athletically gifted players that are committed to playing defense(kinda of like Lebron started doing). Again imagine Jeff Teague running down points along with Josh Smith or Al Horford to block shots on fast breaks. Add our forwards/center running down their forwards/centers. Defense starts becoming fun and everybody's excited to make the next defensive play. No shots will be uncontested whether fast breaks or half court defense(This is if we also included a Ratliff and/or Wilcox) because:

1.)Teague has a long wing span(kinda like Rondo)and came from the same system as Chris Paul (who is a pretty good defender).

2.)Jamal Crawford is big specially when guarding the point and Green is a long two(Tracy McGrady length and abilities).

3.)Joe Johnson, Evans, West, Flip if we keep'em, maybe Childress can man the two and hold their own on the three.

4.)Marvin Williams is an underrated defender.

5.)Josh Smith can be one of the greatest defenders once he puts it all together (Blocks, Steals, Alterations and Intimidation) he can be an automatic game changer whenever he is on the court(Once he perfects his jumper and adds a good off the dribble shot to his offensive game).

p.s. fans don't stop/limit his shooting abilities encourage him to get better. Why not be as much of a weapon as possible. A good example of that would be Lebron James.

6.)Al Horford is a good defender/shot blocker, Solomon Jones can block shots if we keep'em, ? Randolph, Theo Ratliff/Chris Wilcox are good defenders if we get them(Hopefully Mark Price helps them with their jump shot).

Our weakest link would be Bibby (if we keep him).And even he can frustrate the offense at times with reaching hands and get a couple steals. With him being committed to defense and having everybody else mentioned above get his back and their owns we would eventually have a Championship caliber defensive team. With defense leading to offense we can eventually become Champions.
