Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted June 22, 2010 Moderators Report Share Posted June 22, 2010 Falcons OK with their DE depth? If not, should they make a run at this guy? http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2010/06/defensive_end_bobby_mccray_spe.html Defensive end Bobby McCray will no longer be competing for a starting role on the New Orleans' defensive line this season, as the New Orleans Saints released the six-year veteran Monday. Parting ways with McCray was rather surprising, as he was the starting left defensive end in all three of the Saints' playoff victories last season after Charles Grant suffered a season-ending torn triceps. McCray did not respond to messages left on his cell phone Monday, but he did tell WWL-TV's Scott Cody, "I'm speechless." McCray was owed a $1.25 million roster bonus July 1 and a $2 million base salary for the 2010-11 season. Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis also could not be reached for comment. The Saints acquired McCray, 28, in March 2008 as an unrestricted free agent from Jacksonville, and he made an impact during the Saints' road to Super Bowl XLIV when he laid punishing hits on former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre. McCray was fined $20,000 for his two hits on Favre in the NFC championship game. McCray, 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds, garnered 59 tackles, 7.5 sacks, three pass defenses and a forced fumble in 32 games -- eight starts -- during his tenure with the Saints. ~lw3
Moderators AHF Posted June 22, 2010 Moderators Report Share Posted June 22, 2010 Sounds like a fine rotation player. I would want to know what the story is behind that release, though!
