Atlanta - Amazing how much difference a day makes, isn't it? After Jason Terry made his ridiculous statements to the Salt Lake City media about not wanting that Hawks to match his contract offer, today he feels differently.

I found the comments by Billy Knight about Boris Diaw to be very interesting. He said that Diaw could be a solid ballplayer but has to work on his scoring and will take a while to develop. Well just like diesel said Boris is not ready and will not be in the starting lineup.

I agree. The deal is that even if Diaw is a good

defender it takes a year to pickup on players

movements and tendencies. Boris Diaw would

be even less help this year than Email would be.

I don't see what the big surprise is.

I mean, exactly how many rookies do you think ARE ready to contribute right away?? Not many.

What did McGrady do his rookie year?? How about Jermaine O'Neal??

Even top picks need time to develop (Curry, Chandler to name a few).

I don't know too many people that expect a great deal from a #21 pick right away. I know I don't.

To expand on this, here's a list of the last 10 #21 picks.

2002 -- Qyntel Woods (hasn't done jack)

2001 -- Joseph Forte (hasn't done jack)

2000 -- Morris Peterson (a solid player, recognized right away as a steal at #21)

1999 -- Jeff Foster (hasn't done jack)

1998 -- Ricky Davis (good scorer, would never want him on my team)

1997 -- Anthony Parker (hasn't done jack)

1996 -- Dontae Jones (hasn't done jack)

1995 -- Michael Finley (one of the best late 1st round steals of the last decade)

1994 -- Dickey Simpkins (hasn't done jack)

1993 -- James Robinson (hasn't done jack)

So, out of the last 10 #21 picks we have three guys out of the league, four role players and three solid players.

And of the three #21 picks that actually panned out, only Finley and MoPete contributed right away.

I would say that it's realistic to think that there's a 20% chance Diaw will contribute (by contribute I guess we use MoPete's rookie #s -- 9 pts and 3 rebs) right away. Which would be right on par with the last decade.
