Bird and fish deathes- End of Time?

I'm sure most of you have heard about all the birds dying in Kentucky, Texas and Ark and it seems most of them died between New Year's Eve and the 3rd of Jan.

What do you guys think the cause is? I gotta say that I don't believe that silly explanations about fire works.

Thing is - I grew up in big "redwing blackbird country" they are annoying as heck and they flock in the thousands. They fly in like locusts...I remember when we were sitting under a big shade tree in my Grandpa's yard (in the country) and there was at least 300 RWBBs that flew into the tree above us...squawking and sh!tting...My uncle went inside and got the .12 guage double barrel and just shot both barrels straight up into the tree. 50 or 60 dropped due to the birdshot.

These are not bright animals....they survive as a species by being prolific breeders...a few thousand here or there means little.
