For the lack of a general, the battle was lost.

The Atlanta Braves can't or will not bunt. Apparently the powers that be,

namely the manager and his staff, cannot or will not teach these players

the art of the bunt.

This is one of the weapons that should be available to any baseball team.

This is something that any professional athlete should be able to do. They

may not become great at this but they can become good by receiving the

proper instructions from someone who knows what they are doing and then

working on this skill.

Pitchers, more than any one else, are expected to be able to do this. Why are

all the other players exempt? Why would that great slugger, who lets the air

out of the entire stadium when he swings, think it beneath his dignity to lay

down a bunt? Need a bunt and he will not or can not do it? Take him out and

let yesterday's pitcher pinch hit for him!

Last night, time after time, Braves had the opportunity to score against the

Philly team. Bunt the runners over? No! Squeeze the runner in from third?

Heaven forbid. No! Swing for the fences and strike out!!

Until all the Braves learn to bunt, we can expect this same thing to be played

out, over and over and to cost us games. All for the lack of a good bunt.
