He's not a bad defender but he is clearly more offensive (5.1 offensive win shares) than defensive (2.5 defensive win shares) with (.131 WS/48). 

 

Compare that with Ariza 4.3 and 3.7 and .141 WS/48 and see you a player who's more limited offensively but more of a difference maker defensively and more balanced overall. 

 

For comparison, here are DMC (3.2 & 2.6 & .119) and Korver (3.9 & 2.0 & .118)

 

So Parsons is clearly an upgrade to DMC and Korver offensively and he's approximately their equal on the defensive end.
