WalkerFan
I have read some stuff on this board about Walker and Boston and I would like to clear what was said here at this board. Walker was not traded away from the Celtics because he did anything. Danny Ainge was hired by the owners son Wyc and was traded away because Danny Ainge had preconceived notions that he refused to change even after Walker proved him wrong. Danny never gave him a chance. Second, Pierce and Walker always got along. They are still till this day friends. Last year during the All Star game they even hosted a party together. During the off season both where at each others charity events. There was never anything but admiration between the two and that still exists today. The only thing Pierce is guilty of is buying Danny Ainge BS about the team being better off if he got to take all the shots. I don't even think Walker knows that Pierce was asked about the trade before hand and bought all Danny's BS. Walker was nothing but a team player in Boston and Dallas. He worked his butt off for both teams and was never appreciated because he has a strong personality. That isn't appreciated in Dallas where they only like players with no heart. All of his teammates always liked him and he is good friends with some of the games current and past best players like Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Michael Finley and Lebron James. If he was so hard to get along with like some on this board have proclaimed I don't see him being friends with guys he competes with now. If he can get along with Paul Pierce then he can ego along with anyone (Pierce is a jerk and has an ego the size of California.) I have been a season ticket holder in Boston for 20 years and have been around these guys quite a bit. Walker has always been a class act to the fans even when the fans have not been a class act to him. I really don't know how he put up with a lot of what he has put up with in Boston to tell you the truth. I just wanted to clear up some things that have been said around here because some of it, no all of it has been way off base. Us season tickets holders talk a to at the games and even out side and every one of us in my discussions would take Walker back in a second. AgulaDX
I really like the way Walker's playing for the Hawks so far. This is the real Walker. Sure he's missing a lot of 3's and free throws, but no one's perfect. Walker's game in Dallas was bad...he was handcuffed and held back...but that's just because he was a role player, nothing more. The main concern you Hawks fans should be worried about is the growth of Al Harrington. Harrington needs to step up and become a big time player...only then will Walker easily step aside and give Harrington the rock. Walker did that for Paul Pierce, he will do that for Harrington if Harrington can show he deserves the rock.
Employee8
Maybe harrington would become like Pierce...Maybe he won't. But Bottom Line is : IT'S A TEAM GAME and TEAM DEFENSE is what helped us win this game tonight.
Premium Member Wretch Posted November 17, 2004 Premium Member Report Share Posted November 17, 2004 Yep. He has been steadily growing on me and I'm changing my tune and gettin' on that bandwagon. Diesel came on out and said that AW looks like a keeper...and I have to agree. I was about 75% sure that he was going to be dealt before the trade deadline. I'm about 50/50 right now, but I know one thing. We'll get a damn good offer or he won't be going anywhere. What really sealed the deal for me wasn't the numbers he's been putting up. It has been the clutch play. We haven't had a goto guy in FOREVER. Ivey got Walker the ball late in this game against Houston and I could just feel it. Even before they got down the court, I was looking at what AW was doing. He got the ball and took it to the rim. Even when he spotted up for that late 3, you could feel it. He's the kind of player that you pair with other high calibur players to win REAL games. I don't know what that means for our forward rotation, maybe when Toine can't carry us anymore, we move Smooth up (if he becomes what we think he will)...but I am no longer thinking that we absolutely HAVE TO deal him. bballfan
Thank you. I must have missed this post because I don't remember it. I am glad to see that someone in Boston actually got it. Kaviar1
The problem with AW, and the reason he has moved around, is that he has refused to buy into a "role" for his team(s). In Boston they really needed a PF and someone to post-up, rebound, and play interior D. AW wanted to be all-world and loft three pointer after three pointer along with whatever else he could think of. Even LeBron James knows his "role" for the Cavs and plays within that. All great teams are made of great players that have bought in to their roles on that team. AW has never quite gotten it, now on the downside of his career, it is obvious he will have to settle in at SF for a team with a very solid frontline. I am sick of people like you saying this crap when they have no clue what they are talking about. Walker was encouraged to take the 3 when Jim O'Brien coached the Celtics. This is how he ran things. Same with Nelson in Dallas. This is how Jim O'Brien runs the Sixers and Nellie still runs the Mavs. Never once has Antoine not done what hic coach said. Just because fans want him to not take so many 3's doesn't mean this is what the coaches are telling him. In Dallas Walker wasn't taking 3's and Nellie told him to shoot more of them.
