Admin capstone21 Posted August 28, 2002 Admin Report Share Posted August 28, 2002 I still don't think they have recovered from the last strike. I think this one will really do the sport in. Without a salary cap teams like the Yanks can buy the world series year after year becuase they have the capital to do it while small market teams can't compete. I have found myself losing interest in baseball the last few years. If they strike I am done with the sport.

ersimo2889
There's stuff like the rookie drafts (international draft or U.S. draft), revenue sharing, payroll tax, and more stuff about money.
Gray Mule
Side one --- The owners. They can't control themselves individually, so they are trying to do it collectively. They have a large fortune invested in major league baseball and want to protect themselves. They want to stop the extravagant spending, but they can't stop themselves because they want everything for their team and will go to any lengths their money will allow to get the players they want. Side two -- The players. They are the very best baseball players in the world. They demand and get huge contracts to do what they do so well, bleeding the rich owners for all they can get. The very poorest of them make a whole lot more than almost all of us. They want the owners to split the money that the owners have coming in and give them even more. Side three -- The fans. Without #3, there is no need for either #1 or #2. They are the ones who are supplying all the money to support all of #1 & #2. Radio revenue, television revenue, merchandise revenue, food and drink consessions and all the tickets sold are all supported by the monies of #3, the fans. As side #1 & #2 argue over what to do, they ignore the wishes of #3, who, for the most part, just want to watch baseball and are, in reality, the foundation of the whole thing. If you loose the foundation, the building will fall, collapse completely. Both #1 and #2 are saying, "If I can't get my way, I am going to take my ball and go home!" They are about to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs because they want the meat from the bird. If they do that, the golden eggs will stop. cyman3
issues concerning STERIOD TESTING and SALARY CAP... do both (or one) of these issues have sometime to do with the possible strike?
Gray Mule
Why couldn't they get this done by now?? Why must the fans do without baseball while they fight over millions and millions of dollars which must ultimately come, not from the pockets of the owners, but from the fans? How long will baseball survive if they drag this out, end the season here before the settlement? The rich owners can sit in their empty, quiet stadiums that were many times built by the taxpayers and watch "Their" players. Hope they all enjoy themselves if this happens. Maybe they will settle this thing, but it doesn't look good. Gray Mule
