Official Playoff Game Thread: Hawks at Celtics -- GAME 1 (3 PM Tip!)
h4wkfan replied to lethalweapon3's topic in Homecourt
This is what happens when you brick open shot after open shot. long rebound run outs and our defense doesn’t get set. celtics just about daring everyone not named trae to take a jumper. And it’s working.- 492 replies

2022-23 NBA Season Has Officially Started: Notes/Tidbits/Updates etc.
h4wkfan replied to JayBirdHawk's topic in Homecourt
An Onyeka/Brooks pairing seems like a great fit. that’s a shame about Ben. Other than health (mental + physical), I think he would’ve been a perfect compliment to Trae. Hope he can get back to the player he was, but back/nerve issues are never a good sign. -
Which former Quin player will he/we recruit (in any)
h4wkfan replied to Spud2nique's topic in Homecourt
I went with Royce. I could also see Jae. I think Quin probably recognizes we need someone like that - both on and off the court. -
I don’t know why, but my immediate reaction to this picture went to this is the Hawks version of that blurry picture of Bigfoot. yes. I’m comparing Prunty to a mythical creature. #StillUndefeated

The nets are a dreadful matchup for us as they are currently constructed. Sunday afternoon matchups are typically dreadful for us. we played maybe a collective 2.5 good quarters. Yet we still won … with 99% confidence we lose this game with the former coach at the helm. that is improvement. That’s what I want to see day to day.

I don’t think I have much to add other than what’s already been said. it’s a no for me. It would giving up even more size. plus Beys skill set is best served coming off the bench. JC in the starting lineup has actually been very effective. Having bey come in as a gunner off the bench is exactly the piece our bench needed to become a (hopeful) non weak link.

Am I wrong for wanting Prunty to coach the next game in those oversized bright red bball shorts?

Which player benefits most STAT (assuming it’s Snyder
h4wkfan replied to Spud2nique's topic in Homecourt
I voted Hunter as well. Hoping he can expand/improve his game similar to Hayward in Utah. -
I had this discussion recently with someone about coach killer. And my question will always come back to … where are the coaches now? If they were so talented, they have to be head coaches somewhere, right? 1) Lloyd had issues. He may get there, but he wasn’t there yet which is why he’s been an assistant the last 2 years. 2) game passed Nate up I’d bet with confidence he will never be a head coach (in the NBA) again It’s not like we ran off a coach that immediately got a job in Indiana because he is actually recognized as a fantastic coach.

So can Ime come on as an AHC to help with defense and get his career back on track? i was hesitant on Quinn, but I’ve come around to - if he is the guy - this could be a really great hire.
-
His second tweet isn’t wrong though. So does he get points for that? Maybe if “old school” wasn’t losing as much as Nate was - he wouldn’t have been fired?

interesting timing on some of these stats coming out i need to stop sharing my homework

Pretty sure I made a post about this in that they are competitive even with the primary rotations on contending teams. This doesn’t surprise me. Our bench play + late game play is the culprit imo. Partially our talent level and partially coaching, imo. @NBASupes brought up the point of the performance seems to fall off in the 4th relative to the first part of the game. So while the overall looks great - def is some volatility by quarter … with the worst seeming to read it’s ugly head in crunch time. BUT with a starting unit performing that well. We have no reason to be hovering .500.
-
All part of the softness of this team. Nobody should be above it.
-
That’s kind of the point. Someone needs to come in and set the tone. Too much softness … we get pushed around too much.
-
Pat Beverly. I can’t think of anyone else coming close. I’d pay to watch our practices.
-
I don’t see that as a problem. Part of being a great coach is identifying and putting together a top notch coaching staff. Not nepotism hires.

Transition defense is an absolute f***ing joke. Ball watching. Whining to the refs. Hands on hips. Marks of a team that plays hard, for sure.

This team has so many warts when we aren’t on fire from 3. we need to restructure the team … everyone not named Trae and AJ can go in the off-season. Coaches included. Sigh.
