  2. having more nationally televised games has no effect on revenue. the nba evenly splits the national tv rights fees. what increases revenue is having a good team, which leads to more ticket sales and potentially nationally televised games, not the other way around. the nba also splits merchandise revenue equally. Link
  3. we run offensive sets? weird, never noticed that since woody took over.
  4. We have to keep in mind that mo evans is a career 37% 3-point shooter (think Al Harrington) and flip murray is a career 28% (just bad). Their ridiculous hot starts probably won't hold up over the entire season, but they are still good, active players who can have a valuable role.
  5. I think people say this about JJ because he really isn't as good of a finisher around the rim like kobe or lebron. He doesn't rock the rim and come up with highlight reel plays.
  6. Point taken, but he's a writer. He should investigate and report the news about our team. We won't ignore it if he's on point. Instead, lately he's always spiking a football and saying "see how damn right I was! you betta recognize this!" I dunno, it's just less classy.
  7. I hear you. Seems like every blog post he makes now is him chastising the world that he knows everything about this team, has all the inside sources, and that if you read anything about the Hawks not written by him it is wrong. It's time for him to get over himself.
  8. The Braves need pitching some how some way. We may not have Glavine, Smoltz and Hudson next season. We're in full-fledged rebuilding mode. I think the Braves need to acquire young talent or prospects and plan for the future.
  9. I saw Dikembe in a Shane's Rib Shack on Cobb Pkwy yesterday (no joke). Maybe we're signing him! And maybe definitely not. He was meeting with some business guys though who were explaining everything about the menu, maybe he's going to open a few of his own.
  10. Who are the teams that wanted him? The Suns seem like a championship caliber team where he may fit. I wonder if they were offering Barbosa as posted here elsewhere. I would have preferred getting a player like him versus getting nothing. Who are the other candidates?
  11. I've seen a couple of blog postings by utilizing the blog link; however, I'd hate for someone to put in a lot of time and effort into a blog posting only to see it read by just a few people. I feel like the blog section could become a graveyard, as 99% of the members probably come here for the forums. Is there a way to promote or recommend a blog posting to the forum (kinda like digg, I guess) for the rest of the squawk to discuss?
  12. I'm a huge fan of the new forum software. Great job, guys. Quick question, can we search within a specific thread or within one or more forums?

    Al responds

Quote: Quote: Al wouldn't leave the NBA because he's a competitor. He knows the highest level of competition is in the NBA and he seems like the type that lives for that challenge. I agree with this. And secondly, Al has potential all-star and max contract written all over him; Chilz has 6th man and MLE written all over him.... I think it is funny when people say Chilz did not leave for the money; when all he talks about is being disrespected by the initial offer which equals money. For those of you who do not think 7mill vs 10mill is a lot of money should ask yourself this question, would you be willing to take a 30% cut in pay to help your employer make their payroll? Some people do not want to leave the city they live in much less the country. Others see it as an adventure and great learning experience. I have traveled overseas and enjoy it; if I could get a 30% raise and move to Greece for one to three years, I would be packing my bags right now! Al liked Chilz and he knows this was all business on Chilz part. Good luck to Chilz and good luck to our Hawks.... some people would, some people wouldn't. it depends on your personality and priorities. my wife works for a medium size firm, makes mid 100's. given her specialty, she could leave for a big firm and make 20-30% more, but she just doesn't want to. she likes her colleagues, the lifestyle, etc. and we're not even talking about someone with an eight digit contract, either.
  14. Quote: Well the hope is that Shirley can contact Stern and get him to step in somehow. The national redicule of the franchise is hurting her city. right, I hear UPS is considering leaving town because of the Childress signing.
  15. shirley franklin and sonny perdue cannot save the hawks from anything
  16. Of course the players would agree because this would, generally speaking, raise salaries. But would the owners? The whole reason there is a luxury tax and cap is to control costs and this would seem to raise costs.
  17. People are blaming ASG because many people have the impression that their actions basically forced Childress to seek offers from euro teams.
  18. Chillz still has to pay US taxes. How much I'm not sure, still waiting for an accountant or lawyer to lay that all out. He's not renouncing his citizenship either. It's a bit hard to get it back once you renounce it.
  19. Isn't AI an expiring contract? If so, I can't see them dealing him for Bibby/Claxton. I would think they would want some assets for the future.
  20. Good for Childress if this is what he wants. Greece is a pretty fun place, especially if you're rich and 25. Sucks for us. As much as everyone says that he wasn't worth a big contract, he was still pretty crucial to the team and replacing him will be tough. JR Smith seems more like a JJ backup. He doesn't really complement him and rest of the lineup like Childress did.
  21. he's also have to renounce his US citizenship. I'm guessing not many people want to do that.
  22. Quote: Quote: That 20mil. Is in Greece (outside of the US). If Josh every brings it here, the IRS will tax it. that isn't how it works everything over 88k made overseas is taxable, even if u never bring it to the US, if u are an American citizen so he pays taxes no matter what however, Greeks are covering that as well i thought the greeks are covering GREEK taxes. i never heard any mention of them also covering US taxes
  23. Would this deal offered to Childress from Greece make him the highest paid player in Europe or something? What are salaries like for euroleague teams nowadays? Are there guys getting significantly more than this over there or is this basically a Garnett-level contract for the European leagues?

    Uh oh.

I hope this isn't true. If he did sign, kudos to his agent, who just flipped restricted free agency on its head.
  25. Quote: Quote: Thanks, jhay. I thought I was swimming alone here. What I think we can all agree is that this should increase the S&T offers coming into Atlanta. That might actually work in Sund's favor. I wonder if the Greek offer is really a better alternative to taking the QO. Taking the QO has its risks (injury), but it does give the player his freedom from being an RFA in exchange. Going to Europe only gives Childress money, and it costs him the prestige of playing in the best league in the world. Plus, he doesn't get his freedom from RFA... (As an aside, I think Stern should work to make things more competitive vs. European teams - multi-year QO's instead of one-year). Well this in and of itself isn't ASG's fault. The fact is that the Euro team gave him a better offer than what I'd be willing to pay for him. Chil won't ever be a star here and might enjoy being treated like the man for a minute in Europe, if he loves it over there (legitimately does seem like the type that might) he could stay and if he doesn't, he could come back in 3 years after the RFA restriction wears off and get an offer from a team desperate to make a splash in FA (like GSW this season). It is ASG's fault that they've allowed themselves to look like morons by not advancing anywhere with Smith or Childress. If this happened and the Smith situation was close to being resolved, it would just seem like Chil got a good deal elsehwere. The way its happening now though makes it seem like ASG just doesn't know how to manage players which could further damage their rep and make it harder to run a team in the future. would the RFA 'wear off?' as long as they continue to make him a qualifying offer then the hawks still have his rights, right?
