  1. Olympiakos is also offering to cover any Greek taxes as well. I wonder how much value this adds to the deal? Hopefully an accountant can chime in. I know that overseas income is still taxable income to uncle sam, but you get a tax credit for foreign taxes paid. But, if he's not even paying them, does he get a tax credit?
  2. Seems like Childress has a pretty good agent who managed to generate some kind of leverage. This is a good way to turn the tables on the Hawks, who have pretty much had the two Joshes by the balls until this story.
  3. Even if the nuggs wanted to deal Camby, I think they could do MUCH better than just Marvin Williams for him. Right now Marvin Williams is just barely an improvement over Linas Kleiza. and just BARELY, too.
  4. Dream on. I'd take Camby for Marvin in a heartbeat and even throw some other stuff in there to make the deal happen. Camby is a legit double-double guy plus we'd have two of the best shotblockers in the league on the same team (if we re-sign Smith).
  5. Quote: It's hard to find a solid young Center. Milwaukee is showing what you have to do to keep one. Milwaukee can't get into a bidding war for Bogut next summer. They nipped it in the bud. It was smart. Next year, teams could have offered Bogut 5 year 80 Million... and there are going to be lots of teams that have money to do it. Milwaukee knows that they have Redd, Richardson signed... they can't get into a bidding war for Bogut. It was actually brilliant for them to sign him with some of the money being performance based. Why can't they get into a bidding war for Bogut? If some other team offered 5 years 80 million for Bogut I'd call them suckers. The Bucks have won about 25 games a year the past two seasons. Bogut's decent, but his "breakout" year translated into two LESS wins than the year before.
  6. Quote: This guy doesn't even live in Atlanta. How can the person in charge of the site not even live in the city? All he does is argue with people's opinions and doesn't offer anything productive here. OK, we all have OPINIONS, so quit pissing us all off and leave this site.Thanks.your complaints have nothing to do with whether he is a competent moderator/admin.
  7. I think this deal makes puts us solidly no better than 6th in the East. As injury prone as O'Neal has been, he's an upgrade over Rasho and the Raps will be fine w/ Calderon: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3461029
  8. Gasol is a legit 5 to me. People are dogging him a little too much because of the finals. Okay, so he couldn't outclass a possessed Kevin Garnett. If I had a nickel for every player who you could say that about, I could personally pay for the Josh Smith re-signing. He's still a great player and made the Lakers a true championship contender.
  9. Quote: Quote: I don't know. It sure looks real, but I know there are 'fake' Myspace pages out there, people putting up phony pages purporting to be some famous person or other....and what the point is behind doing that, I have NO freaking clue- but it leads me to believe that some people really need to get themselves a life. So who knows. I just don't 'get' Myspace, and have always found it to be a little strange. I totally agree... Myspace is just another way for child molesters to get by... I keep my kids off and away from it due to that fact... People make up these fake identifications in order to get close to others... It's really quite childish... Get off your a$$ and go outside and make friends... Sorry, I have been totally against myspace since the beginning.... 7 I guess that's why you're not a bazillionaire like the people who started the site and cashed out when Fox bought them.
  10. if I were running that squad I'd seriously drop Wade and add JJ. that projected team seems to have only one pure spot-up shooter in Redd. they seem to have plenty of penetrators and playmakers. isn't the lack of pure shooters the biggest knock against the previous USA teams who couldn't get it done? that said, I'm glad JJ will likely be staying home.
  11. I want 'Sheed. I'll give you Marvin Williams and a bag of basketballs. That should do it, right?
  12. Quote: I never considered myself a BK fan until I thought this post thru.... Sund is walking into a goldmine: Josh Smith and Josh Childress have the blessing of ownership to be retained. Anderson is on his way here from Babcock's regime for the love of God. Bibby is in the last year of his bloated contract and he has a protege' that should pass him by early in the season. He inherits no bad contracts, a boat load of young talent, and a coach he can do with what he wants. With a front court rotation of Smith, Horford, Marvin and ANderson - we are really in a place to expect improvement. Even if you think that Marvin is piker - which he may very well be - he is in a rookie contract and well worth what he is getting paid for 08 / 09. You can only expect improvement from Al and Josh, seeing as though they should both be graduating from college this month with the rest of their classmates. When the cornerstones of your franchise are 22, loaded with potential, and play inside - you are well ahead of the rest of leauge. Name another team that can state the same???? Its like having Brand and Morning right before the erupt - except on the same team boys! I wish I could find a job that set me up so well. I never thought I would say it - but thanks BK. Granted the last 4 years have beeen painful and we were 5 games below .500 last year. However, we could have the best young core in the leauge - in a division that is rapidly getting old with the beasts Detroit and Boston watching their teeth get long! I'm a huge fan of smoove and horford, but comparing them to brand+mourning is a huge reach. Brand and Mourning were both 20/10 guys as ROOKIES in the NBA. Mourning basically stepped off the draft podium and was 20/10 for nearly a decade until the health issues and same with Brand. Smoove and Horford are NOT THAT good.
  13. I live in Midtown and didn't lose signal during the storm that caused the downtown tornado. I did lose my local channels for a bit, but I suspect that's because they were having their own issues during the storm. I didn't lose any other national channels.
  14. You should get the same FSN coverage (FSN South + Sportssouth) as if you had cable. At least that's how it is for me when I switched from Comcast. I live in Atlanta, though.
  15. Quote: 3) The Hawks are one of two teams in the NBA that doesn't have any debt. Not sure what that really means, but Gearon was happy about it. More than likely this just means that the ASG isn't willing to take on any debt due to the law suit, and that, in turn, limits their finances. If the Hawks don't have "any debt," then who is paying the $200MM+ of bonds used to finance construction of Philips Arena? The arena was financed with 30 year bonds that are supposed to be paid from arena revenues.
  16. I'll be pissed if "been there, done that" means someone like Billy King.
  17. According to Wages of Wins the "just add a bench" theory is supported by their statistics (click link for entire article): Quote: The analysis so far has focused on the entire team. If we look at the players who played at least 1,000 minutes for Atlanta this year, we wouldn’t expect to see a below average team. From Table One we see this team fields the following starting line-up (WP48 listed after each name): PG: Mike Bibby (0.107) SG: Joe Johnson (0.100) SF: Marvin Williams (0.043) PF: Josh Smith (0.111) C: Al Horford (0.170) The average WP48 of this group -despite the play of Williams — is 0.106 (which is slightly above the average mark of 0.100). Josh Childress - the top player off the bench - has a WP48 of 0.206. So with Childress, we see six players with a 0.123 average WP48. Such a mark is consistent with a 50 win team. So why are the Hawks below average? It turns out that every other player employed by Atlanta this season had an average WP48 of -0.009 (excluding Anthony Johnson you get a mark of -0.042). In sum, the Hawks were held back by a very weak bench. Obviously if Atlanta could fix that problem, this team could actually become a serious contender in the Eastern Conference. Or to repeat the argument stated earlier, the Hawks simply need to add a few more productive players to get better. Hoping for better chemistry, better coaching, and/or more effort is probably not going to get it done.
  18. Well, this article from Sekou is a whole lotta nonsense. It's a little strange to write an entire column making excuses as to why he's a step or three slow with providing us information on the GM search. I guess he just doesn't have the sources that Stein and others have. Just because the ownership group has gone into a bunker doesn't mean it's impossible to find out who they have contacted. You draw from sources around the league to find out who they're contacting.
  19. I wonder if it's time to look past where Marvin was drafted and look at him based on what he is today. He's a decent small forward that is only somewhat overpaid who can hit a mid-range jumper and get to the free throw line. Plus he's under contract for a couple more years, assuming the hawks make him a qualifying offer for the '09 season. Wally World is making like $13 million and Eric Snow is making more than Marvin for doing nothing. Brian Cardinal is also making more than him. Marvin is making about the same as Marco Jaric, and I'd definitely rather have Marvin at that price.
  20. I am desperately looking for a pair of tix to game 6. i've been out of town and missing out on all the madness! someone please help out a fellow hawks fan!
  21. in the AP report it mentions that Chicago and Miami will be looking for a head coach. I think I want Larry Brown here, I hope he for some reason finds this job more appealing.
  22. well I'm guessing there will be a TON of those "bandwagon" fans in our building this Saturday night, probably at LEAST half the building. maybe even more. Game 3 still isn't sold out. What does that make "Hawks fans?"
  23. Quote: I usually don't doubt DA... But I hope if we seek out a new coach it's Dale Harris. Larry Brown is more of the same. I know he has the reputation, however, I don't think he'll do well with our guys. Who's Dale Harris?
  24. I wonder if this is a under the table deal that Cuban struck with the Mavs. In exchange for the Kidd trade, maybe he got the Nets to agree not to trade Magloire and waive him instead.
