Guest
http://www.nba.com/hawks/news/Lon_Kruger_C..._-55570-33.html Q: Talk about Dan Dickau and whether we'll see a backcourt of him and Jason Terry this season. Kruger: Dan is going to be an outstanding player. We are really excited about getting him late in the first round. He's a guy that has a passion for the game, very good understanding, he delivers the ball well, shoots it well. I think it will be a little bit of a process getting comfortable, as it is with any guy's first year in the league. I see being selective with his minutes early, picking and choosing, backing up Jason with both Dan and Emanuel Davis, and then as the season unfolds Dan getting more comfortable. At what point, we'll have him in there or if we'll have him in there at the same time with Jason depends on how quickly he progresses and how quickly he gets comfortable. I get the feeling the Hawks are still very high on Dickau but seeing that he isn't going to develop quite as quick as hoped it looks like Email is going to see some minutes to start.I pray he doesn't pull a Larry Robinson on us and use Email as a 6th man. Also JT still says he likes being just a scorer...but will do whatever. That is lazyness.Being only a scorer is being lazy. While I think JT will do fine at PG,the fact that he just wants to score will keep him from getting a big contract.Looks like JT is out of luck.I think he will fill the role with 16 7.5.....HOWEVER, in the back of his mind that isn't the role he wants to be play. There is a difference between not wanting to play PG and can't..Iverson can play PG and so can David Wesley, but since JT isn't as good as Iverson in any phase of the game look for him to have a David Wesley type of career.WHich is fine by me as long as he isn't demanding a really big contract. Everybody knew JT isn't a TRUE PG,honestly the only true PG's are that of Kidd/Payton/Stockton/Andre Miller. Cassell/Marbury/Nash/Van Exel are score first PG's.Really Baron Davis is also. The only way JT gets the really big contract is if he can be Steve Nash. Not Payton/Kidd/Miller/Snow.It's interesting that remember when Lon had JT watch tapes of Steve Nash? Why not Miller/Payton or Kidd? He wants a scoring guard aswell as a guy that can pass the ball.I know JT can...but this is the question.. Is JT really happy doing it?If not then he might not have a place.Even if JT gets us the 16/7.5 I expect if he is not happy about it I'd rather not dish out the big contract. Premium Member Diesel Posted October 18, 2002 Premium Member Report Share Posted October 18, 2002 Actually, the person who can best answer that question is Babcock/Billy Knight. Those two guys will be able to tell you better who the Hawks will have than Kruger. I feel if something opens up, that the team could change just like that. Go back to when Kruger gave an interview in the summer before the big dog trade. He was asked about Toni and he spoke the same way... As if Toni was a part of the future. Babcock stated tht the deal for Big Dog had been on the table wavering a while.
Guest
Well Babs has took the"prove to me"approach with JT which I think is best.Lon,first it's Dickau will play alot...then now all of a sudden he is the third stringer! Did Lon really believe Dan was ready for 30MPG NOW?? I just think he has to go.He seems understand less about the pro game than the fans here at Hawksquawk. Guest
Lon just has my head spinning over what is really going on.I get the feeling that Lon wanting to go uptempo is what is causing alot of the TO's. 1)JT will play PG sucessfully, but not as a up and down court PG. 2)Dickau hasn't adjusted to NBA speed mustless a uptempo game on top of that. 3)Shareef is quick but not fast. He's quick enough to beat most PF's to the basket one on one...But up and down the court speed he just doesn't have. 4)I'm starting to think our 2nd half of the season was the worst thing for the team now.It saved Lon's job. 5)We Need a second ball handler.Every good team should have atleast two.We need a Doug Christie or Brent Barry type of player starting at SG instead of Dion Glover or Ira Newble.
