Guest
In the Gary S for Jordan/Perez deal. The Braves got raped.Perez shortly (if not already)will be worth more than Gary alone. The Braves GM [censored] up.
ATLien_
I think Gary will play out of it. This is one of his worst seasons ever. Isn't it funny how ex braves all ways play better when they leave? It makes you wander what kind of numbers Andrew Jones and Chipper Jones would put of if the left. Gary is a player. He has been injured, but by the time playoffs come around his bat will be alive and well and we will need it.
Guest
As good as Perez pitching us and then Brian Jordan even if Gary was putting up his normal numbers the Dodgers still go the better end of the deal.
Admin chillzatl Posted June 28, 2002 Admin Report Share Posted June 28, 2002 we needed hitting and that's what we got. Sheffield will heat up, as he has been doing over the last few weeks. L.A. needed pitching and they got what they wanted. The braves have gone on record as saying they didn't want to trade perez but they had to. The guy never did anything for us so of all the young pitching prospects we had, he is the one I would have moved first. We didn't get screwed on anything. We'll be there at the end of the season, L.A isn't that good and will slip before it's all said and done.
Guest
Yeah but Gary is getting old slightly, isn't he like 34? Dodgers did get the better in of the deal.If Brian Jordan has a better year then they really win.
Guest
I know he has a good hit every once in a while...but they should release Julio Franco...He sucks. How long can he he and Ricky Henderson still go? What abot Abbie Lopez? Why did they get this bum?He couldn't pitch his way out of a paper bag.
Admin chillzatl Posted June 30, 2002 Admin Report Share Posted June 30, 2002 you always look at everything from the most simplistic perspective possible. They did get screwed on albie lopez, he is nothing more than a reliever. But as a reliever he's been great for us, just don't start him. Before they tried starting him against the Mets he was looking very good. Overpriced, but a very good reliever. His confidence is shot. Julio Franco is doing just fine. He's batting is about .280-.290 as a starter and is up to .270 on the season. His power numbers aren't great. But he always gets big hits and since he's been a regular in the starting lineup his avg has been constantly on the rise. So your opinion that "he sucks" is just your opinion. His stats and production say otherwise. As with basketball you make some pretty senseless comments in the name of "your opinion". Especially when you never have facts to go along with it. but that's the nature of an opinion. They usually ignore facts. Oh, and sheffield, he's 33, which means nothing. He's also batting about .390 over the last 12 games. His average, just like most of the braves players, is steadily on the rise, as are his power numbers. "Oh, and sheffield, he's 33, which means nothing. He's also batting about .390 over the last 12 games. His average, just like most of the braves players, is steadily on the rise, as are his power numbers." It doesn't matter.Even if Gary matches last years numbers which was around 33 HR's and 104 RBI and 320 batting......IF Perez pitches as well as he has and with Brian Jordan the Dodgers still win the deal. It's harder to find good pitchers more than hitters.ESP good young pitchers.A good young pitcher normally has alot of value. In a league that has been more offensive the last several years guys that can pitch have more value. "His stats and production say otherwise. " If you call 270 with a few HR's production I have to laugh. I was just mentioning that Gary is starting to get on the old side alittle..but that really doesn't mean much to the Braves due to their ability to reload very quickly. I like Gary alot better than Brian Jordan(Never liked this guy for some reason)but I feel the Dodgers got the better end of the deal. "As with basketball you make some pretty senseless comments in the name of "your opinion". Especially when you never have facts to go along with it. but that's the nature of an opinion. They usually ignore facts." Is it that or is it you're hometowning? The Braves gave up a potential 1 or 2nd rotation young pitcher and a solid player.Brian Jordan is having a equal or better season than Gary is having. 281 12HR 40 RBI's Jordan 268 13HR 40 RBI's Gary I heard you mention that this was Gary's worse year(as of right now) actually no in 1997 he hit 250. with 21 HR's 71 RBI in 135 games. Those look like facts to me...While you mention a 12 game streak...that is not enough.Hell, there have been 20-25 game hitting streaks this year... big deal. Players go through hot and cold streaks...Recently Andrew Jones has took another dip and is back down to 270 batting.Chipper Jones has alot so been slumping. So one 12 game span isn't enough to erase all the other games. There is you some facts.Thank you very much. The problem is you battle with short term sucess all the time.He batted this in 12 games...Well as I said, players go through hot and cold streaks.
