Cap questions

CBAreject

Recommended Posts

For those of you who keep up with salary cap questions, please verify the following if you can.

We have 45.5 million in contracts going into next season. The cap this year was a little over 53 million. The expected increase is 2-3 million, so we expect the cap to be 55-56 million for next year. We would have approximately 10 million in cap room in that case.

As such, we have the ability to sign a player to a maximum contract next year. Is that all accurate?

Also, it seems that the coming offseason is the last chance the team has to sign a max player, given that resigning Smoove/Childress the following year would likely be costly.

Cap question? The real answer is, Hawks can't sign or

trade for any player unless the total years left on

the contract when traded for or for that number of

years or less, as per the agreement in the squabble

between owners.

I may be wrong on this, but I have that understanding

right now. Any one know anything different?

I know there's a hearing on this matter soon. Could

find the ownership settled then. Probably not. This

thing could drag on for two or three more years while

the Hawks AND their fans suffer under their stupid

failure to act like gentlemen about the entire thing.

I have a personal opinion on that, too. I believe

it's a simple matter of greed on the part of Belkin.

I may be wrong on that, too. He may be the only one

of the entire partmership who is right and all the

others are the crazy ones, but right now I don't think so.

i don't think the cap is a major issue. I don't see any free agents other than Billups that are worth a huge deal and we don't know if ownership will be willing to take on a big deal.

If ownership is willing to take on a big deal i think it is more likely to come through a trade.
