coachx Posted May 22, 2007 Report Share Posted May 22, 2007 Van Gundy was never the problem. He took a flawed Knicks to the NBA Finals. That team did not have the star power of Ming and McGrady but had hard workers and crafty veterans: Camby, LJ, Ward, Childs, Houston, and Sprewell. If he can take that team to the NBA finals he was doing alot of things right !! Maybe the problem is McGrady & Ming are both soft and does not get down and dirty when needed in the playoffs. I would like Van Gundy as the Hawks coach. I am not a fan of the fun loving, light hearted Doon Nelson style of basketball that so many likeon this board. It now time a coach treats the Hawks like men and gives them coaching restrictions (Smoove stop shooting 3's, Marvin must drive more or he sits & Childress starts, Lue cant dribble the air out of the ball or he is benched, Salim can't play HORSE during the game, Za Za can't pretend that he is an all star scoring option, ect.) It time a coach somes in and holds our guys accountable and makes them play the role they are suited for ---like a Jerry Sloan, Larry Brown, Hubue Brown, or a Van Gundy are know to do. Woody seems incapable of defining roles offesively. That is why we look like such a mess on offense. Chils must be used to hold Smoove and Marvin accountable.
