Dumb question regarding possession

How do they decide who gets the ball at the beginning of each quarter...?

I've always tried to figure it out and my best guess is whatever team wins the tip gets the ball at the 4th quarter while the other team gets it 2nd and 3rd.

Has nothing to do with home or away as far as I can tell...

Sorry guys, I know this is a stupid question, but I have NEVER known how they do this...

Whoever wins the jump ball obviously gets poss. in the 1st quarter first. The jumpball loser gets first poss. in the 2nd and 3rd quarter and then the winner gets it in the 4th.

I just skipped through game 4, and it was

1st : Tip winner (us)

2nd : Them

3rd : Them

4th : Us

So I guess so

yeah, its all about the TIP OFF at the beginning of the game.
