Why pay long term assets for a skill that is readily avaliable and likely to be paid less for?

Last season, it was Denver that ponied up the dough to sign Avery Johnson (3yrs, 15 million), and we got more out of Jacque Vaughn (1 yr, 700K).

With the abundance of PG's avaliable this offseason, why would ANYONE repeat the mistake of Denver last season by overpaying and overcommitting to a replaceable skill set?

I am not questioning Vaughn's skill level or desire, but there are many guys who play at his level, and you don't have to pay 3 million a season to get it...

Unless you are Dan Issel...

I'm not going to argue with you... I will just say this:

It's an excellent trade for Utah.

If it were Toni and Jacque going to Utah for Rusell and Marshall....

It would still be excellent because Marshall and Russell are both free agents now.

If it were Toni's last yr, it would still be excellent because Malone and Stockton are in their last yrs also.

They get one last run... Then they turn it over to a rebuilding program that already has:

Vaughn, Kirilenko, Stevenson, Padgett, Lewis, Brochardt, and LOTS of Cash to spend on 2 guys like Miller and Duncan!!!!!!!!!

That would be a helluva Squad aye?

Brochardt/Duncan/Kirlenko/Stevenson/ and Miller

with

Vaughn/Lewis/Padgett/ and some other young guys off the bnch.

I am impressed with how Utah will be set NExt yr.

They lose the contracts of:

Malone/Stockton/ and Ostertag...

That's damn near 30 million dollars right there.
