Are choices 2 and 3 necessarily mutually exclusive? I like where your head's at, though right now it doesn't seem like Dwight has any reason to leave Orlando. Nice thought for sure!

Well alot can happen between now and then. If the Magic dont win a title Im not sure how long Howard will play along being the 3rd or 4th option in that offense. How long is that team going to put up with Vangundy especially if they dont win it all. He can come home and play with Smoove, lol. Sure its a hell of a gamble but if JJ walks for nothing it may be our most logical choice.

Assuming JJ returns for a conservative $14M starting salary, the #24 pick is kept, and Mo Evans opts out, you have this team:

Bibby/Teague

JJ/?

Marvin/PICK?

Smith/

Horford/Pachulia

The cost? $60M. That leaves you somewhere in the realm of $7-8M to sign 5 players. Definitely a possibility.

The following season you have to replace your best bench scorer's salary with Horford's new contract and a late draft pick. The salary level would already be approaching the luxury tax if you re-sign Crawford (MLE money). (That's assuming that everyone you signed to complete the bench in 2010 was a one-year contract).

Bottom line: Keeping the core together means walking a tight rope along the luxury tax permanently (JJ's salary will likely increase by over $1M per year while the salary cap shows no signs of doing the same).

Im sure this question has been dealt with in another thread but lets assume JJ gets resigned, Mo stays and Chills signs the Qualifying offer, would we still have a MLE and or a LLE. Does bringing back Joe Smith or Jason Collins come into play with the LLE?

You'd have to trade Mo to stay under the luxury tax. (You have to have at least 13 players on your roster).

I think we have a better chance of Lebron or Wade signing here for one year at the MLE then we do of the ASG paying luxury tax, lol. Once again it will be an intersting summer for the Hawks. Its almost better than the season. At least we dont have to watch ping pong balls. Off topic ?, why is the draft before free agency in the nba unlike the nfl? It seems to me it makes more sense to get your team in line before the draft and in a situation like ours if JJ wants to bolt via s & t we could get draft picks to make a more immediate impact rather then waiting for future pick or picks.

Wait are we gonna trade Mo or is he just leaving? Which is better for us?
