Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted January 23, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) The lid was on at Philips for the Hawks' shellacking at the hands of the Hornets, going 4-for-20 from 3-point land. 24 hours later, the Hawks run up I-85 to Charlotte and go 9-for-19 from outside. If this is starting to feel familiar, perhaps it should... HIGHEST 3-Point FG%s ON THE ROAD: 1. Celtics 40.4% 2. Nuggets 39.8% 3. Knicks 39.5% 4. Heat 39.3% 5. HAWKS 38.4% LOWEST 3-Point FG%s AT HOME: 1. Bucks 31.9% 2. Raptors 32.1% 3. Clippers 33.1% 4. Grizzlies 33.2% 5. HAWKS 33.8% ... but why? Is it something with the atmosphere (or lack thereof) at The Highlight Factory? Is this team more on-edge when they're on home turf? Or are we employing different offensive approaches at home, versus on the road? So far, only 4 of their top 15 3-point-making performances (and just 2 of their top 8) were at home. ~lw3 Edited January 23, 2011 by lethalweapon3
benhillboy
Seems like a complete coincidence. No way to explain it. But these guys are human, and you can't help but feel deflated sometimes after a few years now of awful crowds at home and you're a winning team. I think we are on our longest road winning streak in some time, so to Drew's credit he is stressing better consistency on the road than past years under Woody, but maybe at a cost of mailing it in at home much more than the past few years. This team has shown it can be dominant at home like last year, or excel on the road this year, so I'm really not concerned about a balanced home-away record as long as it all equals 50+ wins. I've always thought we go as Bibby's three goes: he'll hit a hot streak at home soon.
Seano
Hmmm. Interesting numbers, but I have no idea what they mean. Like benhillboy, I'd guess that kind of disparity is just a fluke and a case of random coincidence, but who knows? Very interesting though nonetheless. tremor
My guess: More energy -> better defense -> more open looks on offense. This season it happens more often in away games.
ATownWhatup
interesting numbers. Depending on the games and situation, any players numbers can fluctuate or reduce.
Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted April 16, 2011 Author Moderators Report Share Posted April 16, 2011 Final tallies, and y'all proved right on this one. Mostly coincidence although the discrepancy is still there: HIGHEST 3-Point FG%s ON THE ROAD: 1. Rockets 38.7% 2. Nuggets 38.7% 3. Heat 38.4% 4. Knicks 37.9% 5. Warriors 37.8% 6. Magic 37.7% 7. Spurs 37.3% 8. Hornets 36.9% 9. HAWKS 36.6% 10. Mavericks 36.3% LOWEST 3-Point FG%s AT HOME: 1. Raptors 30.7% 2. Clippers 32.9% 3. Kings 32.9% 4. Grizzlies 33.4% 5. Trail Blazers 33.6% 6. Bucks 33.7% 7. HAWKS 33.8% 8. Jazz 33.8% 9. Wizards 34.4% 10. Rockets 34.7% Hawks' 3-Point Shooting, Home vs. Road (courtesy basketball-reference): Craw 30.8% Home, 37.3% Road Joe 31.7% Home, 27.3% Road Smoove 37.5% Home, 30.0% Road Marvin 31.9% Home, 34.9% Road I'll try to tabulate Bibby's (41.2% Home vs. 46.8% Road overall) and Kirk's (37.8% Home vs. 42.9% Road overall) Atlanta splits later. ~lw3
