CBAreject
Affeldt has a virtually unhittable sweeping curveball vs lefties. He threw it to Heyward 1-1, and it buckled his knees. Heyward was diving out of the way as the pitch dropped in for a strike. At this point, Heyward was completely handicapped, down 1-2 to a LH pitcher with a devastating out pitch. He threw it again to Heyward who recognized it this time, stayed on it, and got a piece, fouling it off. With Heyward having seen 2 straight slow curves, he threw a blistering 95 mph fastball to Heyward, perfectly located in on his hands, but amazingly Heyward was able to adjust and fight it off. With the count still 1-2, Affeldt threw Heyward another sweeping, knee buckling curve, but Heyward again recognized the pitch, stayed on it, and crushed it for a 3-run homer to break a 2-2 tie. Again, this was one of the most amazing at-bats I've ever seen. For him to adjust within an at-bat against a pitcher that had him completely dominated and hit that tough a pitch that far was just incredible.
