Popular Post gonzo
Dennis Schröder interview from sport1.deHope my english makes sense, should be better then google translate SPORT1: You got a chance of reaching the playoffs in your very first season, but after the good start, its getting tough again, why? Dennis Schröder: We had enormous injury problems and still suffer from that (Al Horford). Paul Millsap just returned. It is hard to compensate that. We have been 3rd prior, but i do believe we are making the playoffs. That would be a great thing for me being in my first year and maybe get some playing time. SPORT1: What did you learn from the hard last weeks as a young player?Schröder: Its quite difficult. We obviously have been looking for things, that we could improve on. One problem are the injurys. We just have to work hard and play as a team. You can't do more. SPORT1: What have you learned during your first season?Schröder: I have experienced a whole lot already. The DeMarcus Cousins incident, the suspension and the phase were i wasnt playing at all and the d-league. I learned a lot from it. Next season i will be way better. Now i know how to behave on court. My Goal is getting more playing time next season and reaching the playoffs with this team. SPORT1: Was the d-league the worst experience?Schröder: Absolutly not. It has definitly helped me, since i wasn't getting playing time at all. In those 6 games for Bakersfield I was finally able to get some minutes under my belt. I had a team, I was allowed to lead. SPORT1: In which aspects of the sport have you improved the most?Schröder: My shot has gotten better. You cant compare BBL and NBA. If you see an open pass here and you wanna play it, the defender is there imediatly and gets the ball. You have to work on your game constantly and have to read it really good. Thats way harder in the NBA compared to germany. But I am getting there. Finishing close to the basket is what I work on very intersiv atm. My game is improving hands down.SPORT1: Will you play for germany during the summer?Schröder: It's good for me playing there. I want to show the team and germany that i can help reaching the olympics in Rio. But we have to qualify for the European Championship 2015 first. Many want to see me fighting for this goal. I will definitly do that, if I got time for that. We will make plans for the summer after the season. What else is planed for the summer?Schröder: Summer League and European Championship. We have to find a solution with the hawks. And i got to work on my game, obviously.SPORT1: How is it looking with your development of court?Schröder: You always learn. I came to ATL 19 years old. In these 9 months i experienced quite a lot. Many peope dont know how hard it is playing here with 19 or 20 years of age. My sis has just visited me. It was a great experience so far and i am very thanksful for it.

If you see an open pass here and you wanna play it, the defender is there imediatly and gets the ball." He now understands the speed of NBA players which has helped him fit down on his turnovers. He is finding his way.

frosgrim
I like that he's leaning but not thrilled with the summer play. Do most NBA guys play some sort of Euro or Latin league? Sort of like the Latino guys do in baseball?
DS17Fanboy
Nowitzki did many Euro and World championships as well in the summer, but when he felt he needs rest or the chances of succes to be minimal he did not go. At this point I think its only good for Dennis at this young age to stay on competing and learning on a high level. Also Batum, Parker etc did great things for France last summer. Schröder then was preparing to get drafted and didnt go. Its like, NBA is #1 but whenever its clever its good to play mayor tournaments like that.
gonzo
Well if your body allows you to do so, almost every player will play for "his" country. The german league is not as strong as many other europeans, so we need our guys from other countries in order to qualify for the olympics. Dirk did it a lot, but its troublesome, since the german team can't pay the insurance fee and the american gm's just say they dont want their players to risk their health. But this will have to change, or the americans might loose lots of international talent sooner or later. I recall Dirk had to pay for his own insurance fee (200.000$) once. But I guess his character is flawless anyways. The Hawks have to let Dennis play for germany in order to make themselfes popular over here and to keep Dennis happy. If germany won't have a single good tournament in the next 20 years basketball would be dead here. Most kids would pick up other sports. It's as simple as that.
