Ressler wants a new arena.

@Hawkmoor That makes sense I didn't think about that. The only thing that would suck about it is it'd hurt downtown ATL a bit. You take away Hawks games there there really isn't nothing to consistent sports wise during the week. It'd be weird 2017, no Braves and Hawks traffic. Although I do wonder how the move would affect attendance, driving to the airport area is something else.

What's so great about Georgia World Congress Center? I'm not too familiar with it.

If it was up to me, I would have had the Falcons move by Six Flags, get that area more developed and extend Marta out there.

World Congress Center sponsors lots of events, and likes to have foot traffic going both ways from the stadium areas to the Congress Center. Thats why ANY proposal to have a Casino in downtown area is tied to having it close to the Congress Center also. Lastly, i think they own the Georgia Dome or have some interest in it also.

To me, the Braves move to Cobb isn't a big deal. Some people act like they are putting the stadium next to Kennesaw Mountain. The location is just outside of Atlanta. Once I pass 285 going south I pretty much assume I'm in Atlanta anyways.

Same here. The new stadium is actually only 1.5 miles NW of the Atlanta City Limits. Near Smyrna, not Marietta. Your assumption is correct: heading south on 75, once you pass 285 you quickly enter the Atlanta City Limits. Literally. And you can essentially see the skyline from the stadium. Now they just need a northern MARTA arc from the Doraville station near 85 along 285 to Perimeter Center on over to Cumberland.

The way Cobb County acting about MARTA, I highly doubt they'll ever get MARTA.

They may eventually be forced to allow a single line to Cumberland, once they tire of that clusterfudge during 7PM weekday games.

I wonder would Cobb create their own thing. Tech got a little system of their own.

I've been a big proponent of theirs for several years.  On-demand service without schedules? If their test runs go well over in Israel then it's only a matter of time before they bring them over here. I'd give them the entire Concept 3 map to build out if I ran transportation in the metro area...

Would be the perfect solution for the Beltline they're currently hoping to cover with the Trolly. And for counties who have avoided MARTA rail, to tie into MARTA with their own systems.

Skytran? Makes me think of Skynet. Could this be the beginning of the end and the rise of the machines?

Anyway,I thought Cobb had CCT already. Are they not planning an extension/expansion with the new stadium?

No, they are not. They want nothing to do with MARTA and never have.

The major problem we have is that there are too many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to transportation in the metro area to begin with. Every county and municipality has their own group of folks who want to keep their 'turf' to themselves and have their set of agendas. That's why you have MARTA for Atlanta, Fulton, Dekalb and now Clayton, CCT for Cobb County, Gwinnett County Transit for their county, GRTA with its park/ride buses, and so on. A central, one-stop shop for public transit has never EVER been in place here. Until these egomaniacs can come together, traffic will always be a problem.

If I had my druthers (and a few billion at my disposal) and Skytran tested out well in Israel, I would do the exact same thing Vince McMahon did years ago when he bought out his dad and took over the WWF. Since these counties are so territorial (sounds familiar, old school wrestling fans?), I would compete directly against all of their transit agencies and kick their asses sideways. I would build out the Concept 3 map the ARC created not too long ago and let the people decide who has the better mousetrap. Folks in this town will still drive their cars but they would have a much better alternative in Skytran than having to wait on a bus or train and be limited to where they can go and what time. And this is before factoring in no longer having to deal with rowdy patrons and complete strangers.

Buses and heavy rail systems are 20th century transit solutions. We need 21st century solutions now....
