MRH, I have read a number of posts of yours and I can say that what you know about basketball would fit in a thimble. Obviously, the Williams pick (idiotic) puts Marvin on the bench in the short term anyway. Shelden is not a Center because he is barely 6'8...he is also not very athletic and has few post moves. He scored because he overpowered guys in the ACC. That won't happen in the NBA. Randy Foye will tear it up and you will be proved wrong in short order. The Hawks owners and GM are the losers. Jay Bilas licks Williams butt because he is a fellow Dookie...we suck. Lue is still the PG and we aren't likely to get anthing decent in FA.

Billy Knight went to bed at 9PM. He had his choice made back in March...somebody needs to call his cell and wake him up to do a trade. Thanks to Isaiah Thomas...Billy is not the WORST GM in the league. If Thomas gets fired BK wears the crown.

So, their interviews were either the few guards that were brought into Atlanta or done in the Orlando pre-draft...sounds like Shelden Williams. All of the consensus top 5 were not in Orlando...nor were they brought in for workouts. Shelden was in Orlando. He makes it sound like every stone has been turned over but that is not the case. Can a GM really be so incompetant that he doesn't even interview or talk to anyone in the top 5? Just for kicks and to make it look better...why not keep options open and do more workouts? Brandon Roy will be the best player in this draft and we can't even bring him in...or interview him?

I agree with you on Shelden. I disagree on O'Bryant...his work ethic, a huge key, is apparently not good.

There were two appraisals and they both came back way off...one of them was for 112M for Belkin's shares and the other was for 88. The Spirit did not think his 12M investment could be worth either amount so soon after just investing two years ago. Here is where the Spirit screwed themselves...the contract stated that if the Spirit did not like the two appraisals they had 5 days to engage a 3rd appraisal. The contract must have been crystal clear...the contract did not say that they could delay if they didn't like either appraisal. It said to get a 3rd within 5 days. THEY DIDNT DO IT. I think they were so hung up on how out of whack the first two appraisals were that they were looking at other legal remedies. Now, the judge initially said that he could not see Belkin getting his way. He used language like "Belkin's remedies will fall short of what he is seeking"...that was before a careful exam of the contract I believe because the judges ruling was EXACTLY what Belkin wanted...the ability to buy the other owners out at their cost basis. So, the contract must be so clear that the judge just followed the letter of the contract. Now, the Spirit are making a lame defense like people will lose jobs if Belkin wins, yada, yada. These guys (surprise, surprise) don't appear that sharp. When you have a contract that is clear and you violate it...you lose. Belkin is certainly the sharper party I can assure you. Don't blame the judge...he was just following the contract. The Spirit were apparently hoping for someone to step in and help them with the price, which was extremely high. But that didn't mean they could fall asleep at the wheel and go past the 5 days. Billy may be about to draft his last 6'8 forward. He may be wishing that he had stood up, looked Belkin in the eye, and shook his hand. That's what a man does...even if he doesn't like the other man. People thought is was funny but it was an insight into BK's character. BK looked like a spoiled brat that didn't get his way and acted like a child. I disagreed with Belkins stance on taking the JJ deal public...but you should still stand up and shake a man's hand. That picture tells you all you need to know about BK. The Spirit are just imcompetant...how would anyone keep signing off on drafting 6'8 forwards every year? This "plan" that BK has is just meandering nonsense that he makes up as he goes along. How could any reasonable ownership watch this crap continue? I am now on Belkin's side...I think he would spend $$$ because he needs a fresh start in this city and he will have to prove that he is all about winning. BK/ATL SPIRIT are the biggest rubes in sports. It's an embarrasment. How can not ONE member of ownership not spot the fraud of Knight? No wonder Belkin was pissed...

Sorry, Ahf, college performance doesn't always transfer to the league. Shelden is the perfect example of a guy who uses brawn to accomplish his objectives in the college game. The NBA rejects players without sufficient athleticism and offensive game. Shelden can't just overpower NBA players like he did at Duke. I could list great college players that couldn't cut it in the NBA for hours. Frankly, with his type of game his bust factor is too large for my taste. He is will be an older rookie and he is NOT that athletic...he also doesn't have reliable low post moves. He is a pure power player. That is why teams ahead of us aren't interested in him even though they all have a need for defense and rebounding in the middle. The fact that we would take him without working him out or anyone else in the top 8 just speaks to organizational negligence. You guys can all celebrate your "good fortune" on draft night. I'll wait until January to tell you I told you so...it will be painfully obvious by then.

Amy Belkin sounds like a smart girl...to busboy: If there is no center on the board why do you insist on trying to jam a square peg into a round hole? Most reasonable basketball people realize that Shelden is no post player. Every team ahead of us needs a big in the middle (Bobcats maybe exception)...why are they not tripping over themselves to draft Shelden? When Shelden is mentioned to the top teams you hear crickets. This drafting another forward who is also not an athlete is silly. If you want a 5 then trade for one. Don't draft a 4 and say that that he is your 5. This Ben Wallace crap is sickening...if Ben Wallace was available, or his clone, in THIS draft he would be a lock for the top 3 or 4. Shelden is not Ben Wallace. Shelden will be a foolish decision, not the best we can do...but BK has done this to us before. People need to stop believing that Shelden Williams is our interior answer. You will be wrong and disappointed.

If BK takes Shelden over ANY of the 3 then he is a fool. I expect him to draft Shelden...I think he is a fool.

Billy won't be the GM next year so it won't matter if his player is a now or later. Belkin will fire him and if the Spirit win they will let him go after another lottery pick proves to be another redundancy. They are listening to him now but he is on a shorter leash than you think. Woody will be fired before the season finishes. We really have no need for Shelden if were supposed to play the fast paced modern game that some on here talk about. We need more athleticism not less...despite KB's bogus garbage about Shelden's supposed athleticism. Shelden won't end up even starting for the Hawks. He will start every game next to BK's high lottery choice of 2 years ago. Yeah, BK sure can pick'em.

Go look at most NBA scouting reports and the listed big weakness in SW game is his athleticism, or lack thereof...so he really doesn't fit in the new fast paced game. If you want to play that way then go get your yourself an athlete...the Suns don't have one plodder on the court like Shelden Williams.

On one hand the Pro-BK poster says that Shelden Williams was impressive athletically in his Orlando workout...and then we find out he wasn't even there. Anything to cover and promote your hero right? I have ben reading all of the BS about how "athletic" you think he is...trying to drive that down everyones throat. We get it. You love every move the dude makes. Stop making stuff up.

What position does Shelden play in your scenario? Don't say the post..PF? So, does last year's #2 stay on the pine? That is really smart...how about getting a REAL 5 in a trade or through FA? Why draft another forward?
