  1. Quote: Quote: Wallace/Noah Aldridge/Noah would be better than Wallace/Noah ???????/THomas Don't get mad, but that's how i feel. I can't argue your opinion - I just happen to disagree. Pax has had two separate drafts to grab that "legitimate low post threat" (Aldridge & Hawes). He didn't, so I'm thinking he doesn't value that one skill all too highly. Pax might be proven wrong - but I'm going to give him more than one season before I make that determination.
  2. Quote: Quote: Pretty interesting... Aldridge looks great. I'll bet Paxon wishes he could do that trade all over again. Yeah that offseason was horrible for them.Drafting TT instead of Aldridge then trading Chandler and signing Ben. They might have killed their title hopes right there. You know - I'm pretty sure Pax would do each one of those moves over again. TT and Aldridges rookie stats are remarkably similar. Especially when you consider how much more advanced an offensive player Aldridge was touted to be, and how "raw" TT was. I'm going to give Tyrus more than one season before I write him off. Did you see Chandler in 2005-2006 and the playoffs? Chandler bought his ticket out of Chicago with that pathetic season. He wanted out, and Pax/Skiles didn't want him. Sounds like a win/win. Wallace is debatable - I won't argue that opinions vary. But we had cap space to burn, and Wallace was the best FA available. It was a case of spend it or lose it. And after Chandlers 2005-2006 season, there was no doubt that Chicago wanted someone who wouldn't fold like a lawn chair in the playoffs. Of course Chandler had a better year than Ben - but he wouldn't have in Chicago. He was done with the team and the coach - he made that perfectly clear. As for killing their title hopes - I wasn't aware that Chicago's window was so small. Aside from Ben & Noce, everyone of Chicagos main rotation players has several seasons before they even enter their prime. Hell - if anything - Chicago is ahead of schedule with this group of players. I think Chicago is just fine, even after what some might consider a "questionable" 2006 off-season.
  3. Quote: Quote: Quote: Two words Joe Johnson You do realize that we had Cap Space to facilitate that deal while currently the Suns have nothing? We had leverage to get a S&T done in that we could offer JJ a max deal, no one can offer Smoove a max deal as of now. Yeah because teams hardly ever open up cap space. What a brilliant way to argue. When posed with any question, just throw up hypothetical after hypothetical to confuse your adversary. Brilliant!
  4. Quote: Read the title of his post. I just now read it. I'm an idiot.
  5. Quote: 1. Bryant 2. Wade 3. James 4. Duncan 5. Nowitzki 6. Garnett 7. Nash 8. Yao 9. Amare 10. Bosh Gil, Boozer, T Mac, D. Howard, Carmelo and Brand are all right there as well. I can't condone any list that has Duncan as the fourth best player in the league. And Amare as the 9th best...
  6. Wow. Bad form Bucks. Can you say "entitlement minutes" I think you can.
  7. Quote: Quote: Please. Granted Durant shot 40% from the field which looks bad but 4.5 of his attempts were threes and he shot 40.7% on those. Exactly, FG% means absolutely NOTHING for a player who takes alot of threes. NOTHING. It's funny seeing how many people don't realize that. Thats why TS% is a beautiful thing.
  8. At this point, I think I'd take Arenas over Kobe.
  9. Quote: It will be interesting to see how he and Smith pan out as 4s. Smith is 235 and holds that weight pretty easily. He is also more skilled than TT but TT has a pretty big quickness advangage. I don't think TT is ever going to be a 235-240 kind of guy. He's always going to have to rely on his quickness and his hops. If they ever leave him, he's done. I still think it is going to be one more season before we really see what TT is capable of. He was a late starter in high school and didn't get very much coaching in college (other than, "Guard this goal") He's still raw, but given the minutes I think we are going to see some good numbers from him. He's just too damn quick, and he gets fouled damn near every-time he touches the ball (if he hasn't turned it over yet) Quote: He has great talent but something just isn't right upstairs for sure. Call me a blasphemer - but I just don't think he is as good as everyone says he is. If I could trade for a guard right now, I think I'd want Arenas.
  10. Its not who starts - its who finishes. Or so Scott Skiles tells me.
  11. Quote: So what is up with TT and Noah? Has TT improved his perimeter game and has he put on any weight? You guys serious about Kobe? On the OT: TT has improved his perimeter game - but he isn't ever going to be a jump shooter. His free throw shooting this pre-season is greatly improved (he shot 72%, up from 60% last year). He is also drawing fouls like no ones business, he led the team in free throw attempts. Lots of speculation on whether TT or Joe Smith will start, either way though TT should get 25+ minutes a game. He'll have more than his share of negative plays (initially) - but he's just too damned talented not to have out on the floor. TT bulked up - a little. He definitely doesn't look like a cancer patient anymore - but he still needs to add weight. Noah looked good, although he did turn the ball over quite a bit. He'll be able to contribute this year, but he definitely needs to get stronger. I think he and TT could be a hell of an athletic front-court. He'll be a stat sheet stuffer kind of guy, but he'll never lead the league. As for Kobe - who knows. I can promise you though that Bulls will not part with Deng for Kobe. If the Bulls can get him for Gordon, a young big, picks and salary filler - then sure - why not? But the Bulls as built are an Eastern Conference favorite, why break up and dismantle the team for Kobe? I probably have a lower opinion of him than most, but I just don't think he's worth it.
  12. Quote: Quote: Dejuan Wagner is probably one of the best players in the game last year per 40 minutes... So why don't you post his per 40s so we can judge Quote: Too bad that rookie is off the bench second. i.e. third string PG. So where would Law be if he was in Memphis? Quote: Again, Diesel has NO CONTEXT. Dajuan played a total of 6 minutes last season. If Diesel had any common sense he would realize that Per 40's are not a "be-all" stat. There are some limits to its usefulness. No one is touting Per 40's as the magic stat by which all players should be compared. But it is the best we have. Historically, a players per 40 stats hold up for their career, regardless how many minutes they play (so long as their are no extremes - ie. 6 minutes for a season.) As the author of the article I linked said, 10 minutes a game is the minimum for comparison if using per 40. Again, just because Diesel doesn't want to believe... http://www.knickerblogger.net/2007/10/01/u...ayer-ability-2/
  13. Quote: Quote: Per doesn't not take into account points, assists or other stats gotten in relation to the flow of the game. It doesn't account for personel changes and opposing defenders. Per inflates scrub players and demotes player that have been good over time in real games. Per is garbage. You don't even know what PER is. Quote: the PER is a complicated single number rating developed by John Hollinger and used extensively in his excellent Pro Basketball Prospectus books. The league average PER is set to 15, but for this view the comparison between a player's production and the opponent production at the position is the focus. At a glance you can tell whether there has been a net positive or negative overall contribution while playing that position. http://www.82games.com/0607/06ATL6C.HTM Assuming you are talking about per 40 minute stats you are still wrong. Agreed - data shows that per 40 stats are remarkably consistent for a players career. http://www.knickerblogger.net/2007/10/01/u...ayer-ability-2/
  14. Quote: Per doesn't not take into account points, assists or other stats gotten in relation to the flow of the game. It doesn't account for personel changes and opposing defenders. Per inflates scrub players and demotes player that have been good over time in real games. Per is garbage. Just because you don't want to believe something... Might I suggest a little reading... http://www.knickerblogger.net/2007/10/01/u...ayer-ability-2/
  15. Quote: Quote: Yeah, and his 3.9 ppg in that time really bowled them over in Memphis. You ought not ever criticize Speedy after this bit of lunacy. Law scoring per 40 minutes 10.66 ppg Conley scoring per 40 minutes 9.75 ppg Guess who shot a better percentage. Conley averaged more assists than Acie in half the minutes. You think Acie would start there? Somehow i doubt Conley would have much trouble beat out AJ. Quote: Damon Stoudamire is starting there because he put up 8.5 ppg in the same time. Damon is a high scoring vet that they are showcasing for a trade. You think Acie would start over him when he couldn't beat out AJ? Quoted because I was just about to say this until I scrolled down and saw that Exodus had already said it (and more eloquently than I would have).
  16. Alright! How about second round pick Aaron Gray being in the top 5.
  17. Quote: Quote: I like Stuckey but he clearly has "sexy sleeper" written all over him. I am not sure how one of the leading vote-getters for ROY and for best player in 5 years also qualifies as the biggest sleeper. From the numbers, it looks like 27 GMs voted and one of them have a man-crush on Stuckey. If GMs were allowed to vote for their own players, it must be Joe Dumars. Kind of how I read that situation.
  18. Quote: Quote: I'm going to go ahead and wait before I crown them the "Best Bench in the NBA" although you may be right, we can have some fun if we want...are you on other competitors' sites as much as this one..not a barb, just wondering. I spend alot of time in Atlanta for work (I was able to go to the Hawks pre-season game against the Bobcats a couple weeks ago) so they're kind of a "second team" for me. I alternate between this board and the Bulls board. I don't really frequent any other teams boards - so you guys are stuck with me.
  19. I'm going to go ahead and wait before I crown them the "Best Bench in the NBA"
  20. Quote: Quote: He is from Arkansas and has family in Memphis. regardless it was a poor career move to make that statement. lol... How do you figure? You think a GM is going to care? You think if Conley goes on to being a solid player, and is entering Free Agency, that any GM in need of a PG is going to care what Conley said in Vibe magazine.
  21. Quote: I think he could contribute more to the "hustle" category (rebounds, deflections, loose balls, etc.) and work on that assist/turnover ratio. He's clearly quick and strong but I usually only see it on offense. Fair enough - he is not nearly the defender his athleticism suggests he should be, that is certain. But I would add, that he has improved greatly. If he hadn't improved, he would still be riding the bench, stuck in Skile's doghouse (as he was alternately the 2 seasons prior) Quote: I don't think he deserves more money than Hinrich. Again, I'd agree - but for whatever it is worth - points are what get you paid in the NBA, and as long as Ben is filling the bucket and shooting 46%fg and 41% from 3 he is going to get his money... Even if Kirk is the better all-around player.
  22. Quote: Your new avatar is painful! I think Gordon is strictly a scorer in a PG's body. He doesn't distribute, defend, or do the little things well enough to warrant that kind of dough. But he IS fun to watch when he's on fire. We'll have to agree to disagree. Gordon was a poor defender - now he is average. His height is a detriment, but thats why he guards PG's. He'll still get burned by a bigger player, but you give and take. Gordon was a poor distributor - but with Hinrich and Duhon running the point he isn't really asked to. What "little things" is he lacking? (This isn't an attempt to spur an argument - I'm curious how other teams fans rate Ben)
  23. Quote: IMO, he is as valuable as Ben Gordon who is strictly a combo guard who is going to demand $10+M. What does that even mean? If by "combo guard" you mean 21.5ppg scorer on a playoff team - then yes, he is a combo guard. Hell, if the Bulls get him for 10mil per, that would be a steal.
  24. Quote: ......coach is George Karl, and oddly enough, he learned it from Dean Smith just like Roy Williams. I've always said that the model for an up tempo team should be George Karl's Seattle teams, because they were teams that could get up and down the floor, but they played excellent defense. If you'd like a more contemporary example, look no further than Scott Skiles and the Chicago Bulls. They had the 6th fastest pace last season, and were first in defensive efficiency. No one talks about the Bulls as a running team, but they push the pace as much as anyone not named the Suns or Warriors.
  25. Quote: My hope is that Chillz could parlay his skills into a Pippen like effort... Uhhh... Okay.
