WHY is Duncan elite? I really wasnt comparing the PLAYERS, just the system, but if you REALLY look at it, Duncan excels because Pops uses his strengths. He keeps Duncan in a comfort range. Horford ISNT playing in his comfort range. Dude has been FORCED to play out of position his WHOLE career. Duncan is a 6 '11 power forward who gets to abuse other power forwards. Al is a 6'10 power forward who has to go up against guys who are bigger and taller than him on most nights.

There is NOTHING wrong with the system that tweaking wouldnt improve upon. I said in another post that Bud can tweak his sets so that Horford is finishing at the rim. Bud is taking Pop's sets, and instead of keeping Al near the paint like Pop does with his bigs, he obviously has Al floating out as a wing player, like he did with Pero. Pop will have Duncan pick and STAY PUT, Bud will pick and " Pop ", ironic, lol. It will get you wins during the season, but in the playoffs, when teams run out and cover the wings, the Hawks only have Sap slicing to the basket. They need Al finishing the sets near the paint. That will spread the defense inside out instead of side to side like Bud prefers.....

I have no doubt they will win their division. They HAVE gotten better all around. My question is do they have enough to compete for the eastern conference championship? Hawks are a good team, but can they compete for the conference crown? Kinda reminds me of oklahoma city. They have a window that is closing because Durant or Westbrook is gonna bounce to the lakers. Hawks HAVE to take advantage of a window they have.

But he TRIED. He didnt pay lip service to it. He HAD Jordan. He cant put a guy's finger on a contract. Wasnt his fault that Jordan was scared to carry the Mavericks. You cant lose out on players you dont make a SERIOUS effort to acquire. Hawks, in my opinion, are gonna stay where they are salary wise and not commit to a big time contract. The ONLY reason Atlanta Spirit gave Johnson all that dough is because they figured they had to have SOMETHING on the Hawks team to make it appealing to a potential buyer. They knew they wasnt gonna pay it, they wanted the team value to not drop. It was another dumb move by them. The RIGHT buyer wouldve bought the Hawks anyway. Danny Ferry did a masterful job of dismantling all that garbage Atlanta Spirit did with Rick Sund. Outside of trading for Dominique Wilkins, that move by Ferry to dump Johnson's contract ranks as one of the top Hawks moves ever.

Two years ago, i wouldve traded him for Horford STRAIGHT up, not that the bulls wouldve done that. I agree with the posters above , he must be damaged goods and the bulls trying to fleece somebody..........

You speaking to the choir. my laughter isnt directed at a player like KD for considering a move to the hawks, my laughter is directed at folks thinking the HAWKS would make a serious move to get him. Hawks ownership isnt fooling me, ive seen this too many times since Ted Turner sold the Hawks. Remember when Ferry cleared all that cap space. We just KNEW we was getting a big time player. Nope, he settled for lower tiered free agents. Nobody is saying that the players he brought in didnt produce, they did, but to get past Lebron, which i THOUGHT is the goal, Sap/Horford aint gonna get it done........ Sap is a big time player, who needs a big time sidekick. The system isnt gonna get it done, its PLAYERS, i.e. Leonard, Parker, Duncan. The hawks dont have that caliber of a lineup....... Why is it San Antonio SPANKS the Hawks everytime they play now? PLAYERS.....They run basically the SAME system. The Hawks need a individual owner like Mark Cuban who LOVES basketball and wants a chip. Mark gets it DONE:

The Hawks got me thinking that drafting players is something they HAVE to do. Its not a tool for building with them..........Im NOT being sarcastic. I thought this even under Danny Ferry. They would draft somebody and send them to Iceland and you never hear from them again, while San Antonio would take that same pick and make a allstar..

Yes it was. Boston usually plays them very good. The brief moments of the game i saw, Horford did play more inside the paint. Good win for the Hawks.

The Hawk's system is overrated. A good coach will adjust it to his players. That's probably why Edy doesn't get playing time in Bud's system.
