Zarathustra
So, what do you think? Something by C. Barkley, the spending statement by Mr. Ewing? What is the best line a basketball player/coach/GM ever came up with? Brasilian Oscar Schmidt on why he took about 90 % of his teams shots: "Some people are made to play the piano, some people are made to move it." Premium Member Diesel Posted September 12, 2002 Premium Member Report Share Posted September 12, 2002 This is my kind of thread. I am motivated by quotes from Russell and Wooden. Here's a taste of some great basketball (Life) quotes. "Defense is a science…not a helter-skelter thing you just luck into. Every move has six or seven years of work behind it," -Bill Russell "the idea is not to block every shot. The idea is to make your opponent believe that you might block every shot." -Bill Russell "It doesn't matter who scores the points, it's who can get the ball to the scorer" -Larry Bird "Approach the game with no preset agendas and you'll probably come away surprised at your overall efforts." -Phil Jackson "Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do." -John Wooden "If what you have done yesterday still looks big to you. You haven't done much today." -Mike Krzyzewski "The most important quality I look for in a player is accountability. You've got to be accountable for who you are. It's too easy to blame things on someone else." -Lenny Wilkins "The only place that success is before work is in the dictionary" -John Wooden "sometimes a player's greatest challenge is coming to grips with his role on the team." -Scottie Pippen "Everyone wants to win, but not everyone is willing to prepare to win." -Bob Knight The most important thing in a person's life is his faith and how he translates his faith into practical deeds." -Hakeem Olajuwon Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts." -John R. Wooden "If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over? -John Wooden "It's what you learn, after you know it all, that counts." -John Wooden
Guest
"When I die they can bury me upside down and all my critics can kiss my a**" -Bob Knight? It isn't exactually about basketball but it's some thing I agree with=)

jaywalker72
This is said to have been above his locker: "They scheduled the game. We have to play. We might as well win." It didn't matter to Bill what the game was, if they kept score, he wanted to win. Amen.
jaywalker72
"The Ship be sinking." ---Michael Ray Richardson on his Knicks. No basketball phrase has been repeated more than this infamous quote from Richardson, a shy man due to speech problems, so when this quite accurate utterance was recorded, it was one for the ages. Gray Mule
I think it was Yogi who said, "It ain't over 'till it's over." Another one, which I can't remember who said it, I thought was pretty good. When asled about something, this player replied, You can sum it up in one word, "You never know!" I'm sure some other coaches and managers have felt as the late Casey Stengel did when he was manager of the Mets in their first year of existence, "Don't anybody around here know how to play this game?" Yogi is also credited with saying to the waitress at the pizza parlor, when she asked if he wanted his pizza cut into six or eight pieces, "Cut it in six. I don't believe I can eat eight pieces."
