Premium Member Diesel Posted September 16, 2002 Premium Member Report Share Posted September 16, 2002 There are two schools of thought about replacing DJ... Really three. I will go through all three. Find a FA Gaurd who would be our starter That list includes. Voshown Lenard Jimmy Jackson Kendall Gill Felipe Lopez Find a free agent who can come in and Compete with Dion and Ira for the start LRob Jaren Jackson Raja Bell John Starks Dell Curry Mitch Richmond Jeff Trepagnier Let Dion or Ira start at SG then find a very good bu at SF (who can also play PF). Lee Nailon Walt Williams Roshown McLeod Donny Marshall Edwardo Nejera Ced Henderson Rodney Buford John Wallace Scott Padgett Tyrone Nesby Darvin Ham My preference? Hmm. Maybe bring in Ham or Nailon as SF/PF. I like Hendu, but I don't trust him and Theo.... We need more depth in the frontcourt. Padgett or Hamm wouldn't be so bad either. IF we were to go after a 2, I'd say get Voshon Lenard. He can hit the open shot and he plays ok defense.
Admin chillzatl Posted September 16, 2002 Admin Report Share Posted September 16, 2002 There are only a few people in either of those lists that I would want. JJ would be good if it weren't for the attitude problems we've heard about. He can score and play solid D, he would be great as the starter. Lenard and Gill would be ok, but I wouldn't start either personally. Out of the 2nd list, Raja Bell and Maybe Dell curry are the only ones I'd want. Several guys on that last list I would like to have, Najera, Ham, etc. You can remove Roshown from that list, he is officially retired and recently accepted a job with a school somewhere. JTFan31
Well I wouldnt have anyone else starting if is not Ira or Dion. That will be like a stab on the back for both for them. Ira is an extremely hardworker and so is Dion, at least he can be. I like those guys you mentioned because they all can shoot the 3 very well, especially Voshon and JJ. Guys right now as it stands we need a 3 point specialist that can not only log in minutes just for that, but can also log in minutes because of great play. This is desperately lacks another 3 point threat other than JT. There are a couple of guys out there. JJ and Voshon would be great additions for us right now, both can shoot the 3's very very well and contribute in other ways. I like Dell Curry but basically all he does is shoot 3's. I'll take JJ hands down, he is physical at 6'6 and shoot very well and plays pretty good damn D. John Starks is another guy that would be nice to have, he plays tough nose D and shoot the 3's well also.
Guest
This guy is trash now.He fires blanks one after another. Lenard/Najera/Ham are the 3 guys I'd take off the list. I wouldn't mind Walt Williams either. He is a underrated player.Lee Nalion and Felipe Lopez wouldn't bother me either.
Admin capstone21 Posted September 16, 2002 Admin Report Share Posted September 16, 2002 As I mentioned before I think Kendell Gill would be an excellent addition. Lopez would be a nice addition too. He plays hard and is a good defender. I don't want JJ, we have enough offence already and he is a poor defender. Raja Bell is intriging. He was a big reason for the 76ers success during their 'playoff final' season. Leanrd brings an outside shot but he is undersized. Starks would be a good addition for one season until DJ is ready. The rest of the guards do not interest me except Richmond, if he can get back to half of his top form sign the man. As far as the forwards, Ham, Najera or Nailon are the only ones of the guys mentioned that I would like to sign. Najera would be an excellent addition with his work ethic and hustle but Cuban is not letting him get away. Ham is all energy and defence which is what we need for a bu to big dog. Like you said he can also play some pf which is good incase Hendu goes down. Nailon is a talent that has yet to be tapped. I was at a Hornets/Bucks game last year over Christmas and Nailon was the only guy to stand out on the Hornets team. That is saying something considering the players they put on the floor. If he is available, I would grab him over anyone else on the list. Happy Hunting Pete.
Hawksfreak
OOOOO how much would I lovveee to get Lee Nalion! Great player! Terrific! One of the best 6th men in the league. With him on our bench WOW!
TrentL2
Not John Starks, he's done. Forget about Raja Bell too, he has signed with Tau Ceramica in Spain - the same club where Hanno went. They have pretty strong squad: Bell, Mottola, Luis Scola (whom the Spurs are trying to buy out), Andres Nocioni (the argentine dunkster), Laurent Foirest... I'd rather have somebody with 3pt range. Lenard would be very good.
Blunt91
CHillz that is sad that Mcleod's career is over so soon. Hopefully Dermarr can bounce back and not have to retire like Roshown.
Traceman
store where we were both looking at some home theater seating. I talked to him a little bit and he said that his knee simply would not heal properly and that he was done playing ball. He said that he was truly blessed though and was fortunate to have his wife and family, a great education and a great job. He's a very nice, sharp and down to earth guy and I'm sure he will be successful at whatever he does.
