That the Lakers and Hawks are talking about a sign & trade involving Smush/Bynum for Harrington. On message boards, supposedly from a radio report.

That would be a real wet dream. The deal would only be about 7 million off.

The reports I read a while back are that the Zen master is willing to trade Bynum so they can win now. But the owner isn't willing to do that. You would wonder if they asked Bryant if he weren't in favor of it too so he could be some immediate help.

It'll never happen but...only reason it could...LA is a win now team with Kobe and they think Al gives them a good 2nd/3rd option.

Salaries? Nowhere close.

Maybe the Bobcats are getting involved in this one from that previous rumor because they are under the league minimum still and have to either sign players to make up the 8mil they need to reach the minimum or disperse it among their own players? They could be taking like Mihm and Mckie or something who all have expiring contracts this year to get to the minimum. We could be coming up big here!

If you read the comments on the board the Laker's fans are divided. About half say it is crazy to give up the big fella while the other half say by the time he is ready Kobe and the others will only have a year or two left to play. I think to get a young big like this would be a deal that would tempt the owners to take back players and salary. The trouble is you gotta make the salaries work first.

The Lakers would have to trade players to the Bobcats to get a trade exception big enough for Al.

Then we would send Al to them and , in a separate transaction, they would give us Bynum.

That is the only way the Hawks get Bynum. I doubt this is legit.

This from the Realgm board to support your supposition:

here's another thought though - if absolutly nothing works for the pacers trying to get harrington, they refuse to give out cash or whatever the reason is...

is it too impossible to see the pacers using their trade exception to acquire mihm cook and wafer ?

that would allow them to play j.o. at pf where he should play, they won't be committing long term money and leave themselves some nice fexibility and nice trade assets,

and for us - those 3 would generate a big enough trade exception so we can sign harrington to a starting salary of 8 mil - should be more than enough.

we'll even hold another card - sasha and mckie for lue - which would save the hawks another 3.5 mil in salary for 2007/8 payroll.

- they just signed speedy claxton - i'm sure they'll be very happy to dump lue for sasha, and we should be pretty pleased to get him...

here's how this would work:

pacers trade: nothing - use their tpe.

pacers get: mihm, cook, wafer

hawks trade: harrington (7-8 mil), lue

hawks get: sasha, mckie, laker 1st, cash from la, create trade exception

lakers trade: mihm, cook, sasha, wafer, mckie, 1st, cash

lakers get: harrington, lue

i don't think its entirely out of the question IF the pacers see they're out of the running for harrington - at least they'll make sure he goes west...

The only way the Hawks consider this is if Bynum is thrown in. Still VERY UNLIKELY.

it is reported in lakers forum that

Lee Hamilton on AM 570 led off today's 5:00 PM headlines stating that Atlanta approached the Lakers directly about a sign-and-trade that would send Al Harrington to the Lakers for Andrew Bynum, Smush Parker, a 1st Round Draft Pick and $3 million in cash.

I think those numbers would be close. Still say it would be a wet dream for us.

Even though that trade is already lopsided in our favor.....

I would like to force the lakers to take Edwards or Ivy

If we insist upon cash and a pick in addition and refuse to do a deal to get Bynum if we don't get either or both, we're GD fools.

Don't listen to this. Its completely fake. There is NO WAY that it would be able to go down within the salary cap rules. LA is probably second worst to NY about rumors.
