Playmaker0017
GrayMule, They aren't negative comments. I think Wilks played a decent game, and far above his NBDL-scrub level. But, playing above your level does not translate into being a hero. That was my point. He isn't good, and didn't play a really good game. Did he play better than anticipated, sure. Did he play better than JT, no. Did he "single handedly" keep us in the game like our announcers tried to say, no. That is my point. Play.
Playmaker0017
HDS, Reef played like the Reef of the past month last night. Of course, I still don't quite understand avoiding getting him the ball in the post. Play.
Playmaker0017
ChillzAtl, No, it is not an understatement to say Wilks had a subpar performance. He did not play like an average PG. He had a sub-par performance. He wasn't able to deliver the ball with any "real" efficiency, and barring Glenn's "great" game he wouldn't have even close to a decent stat line for a PG. Did he play better than an NBDL bench-scrub with a dislocated thumb, yes. Did he play like a true PG in the NBA, no. In my opinion, playing above your level does not translate to the hero-dom. Unless you REALLY won the game for the team. He did NOT do this. Play.
Playmaker0017
HotLantaDude, How can you say that Wilks didn't had a great game and not get flamed. I say that calling the guy a hero is a tad much, and the entire board comes out to join in on the "lynch mob". I'm still a little nervous and keep looking out my window looking for signs of advancing torches. Play.
Gray Mule
He played a decent game. He played far above his level. That's what you said. With J.T. being out, I don't believe Hawks would have won the game without him. His game made the difference. He was all over the court and as you said, playing a decent game. He could have folded under the pressure, but he didn't. He was under pressure as he brought the ball up the court and he could have turned it over every time, but he didn't. He played above his level. All this, in my way of thinking, for a player going back to the development league after the game, makes him the hero of the game. Guess it just depends on your definition of hero. But, for one night and one game, which we loose without him, on this night he fits my definition of hero. swolehawk2
4 TOs ain't [censored] when you handle the ball as much as he did last night....the entire second half he got jumped in the back court and beat the pressure most times picking up at least two fouls on AI in crunch time...watch the game! Guest
These guys jump up and get all crazy anytime a bum has a half decent game.He has one of the worst shots of any NBA player...Did you see that wide open 12 footer he nearly missed the goal with againest NY?HORRIBLE Mike Wilks is a bum that will be playing on 10 day contracts for a few years then will dissappear to the minor leagues. He has no talent. 4 turnovers is not good....ESP when you only shoot 2-7 that is 9 waisted possessions. The Hawks were just lucky Puppy Dog was hitting everything. swolehawk2
U r a Drama Queen...you exaggerate way too much..we are talking about one game...I don't think anybody branded him the next John Stockton...I am simply saying that he helped us win last night....because if Dickau would have played the whole second half we would have lost..and probably set a record for TOs. If Wilks is a bum what does that make Dickau...[censored] we need a backup PG in the worse way.
JTFan31
Unsung heroes. Theo and Dion both were deciding factors in this game. First Theo, he really made an impact with his interior defense. The Sixers were really intimidated by his presence down below, were they not? Many many times Iverson drove the lane and saw Theo down below and took an even tougher shot to make, not only Iverson but also van horn and the others. Dion had also an exceptional game also, he shot the ball very good and played good defense, rebounded well and he hustled. Actually everyone hustled tonight, and most important we did not let any of the others Philly players.....Van Horn, Snow, Mckie etc..... Forget who are the heroes and who is not, the important thing was that everyone put in a collective effort to come out and play and we won in Philly, not an easy thing to do. I dont want to hear that Philly had an off night and excuses like that. This is the NBA and any team can beat any team on any given night. And tonight it showed that if we can put in a good effort we can beat anyone in this league. The effort showed when Snow had a cleared layup and Reef came in with a big Block, thats what you call good help team defense.
Playmaker0017
GrayMule, To say that we wouldn't have won without him... I don't know. The Hawks couldn't miss *unless he had a 3 on his chest* and the Sixers couldn't hit. I think Robinson stepped up. Theo stepped up. A whole heck of a lot more than Wilks. The kid is NOT that good. Let's look at facts and NOT emotions. He picked up his dribble far too often. He couldn't find open men. He couldn't run the pick and roll. He can't shoot. He didn't even think about playing defense. And you can go on about iverson this or iverson that, but the guy shoots less than 40%, and last night he shot 50%. That isn't good defense. Play. Gray Mule
"The kid is not that good." True. He played over his head -- My point exactly! There were a lot of contributions from the other players that made a huge difference but you expect this from them. We know that they are capable of having this type of game. It was a total team effort, as it is most of the time when we get a win. The kid had turnovers and didn't shoot that well -- True. Now, having agreed on all that, Hawks won the game. Without the things that he did do right, there would have been no victory. He had the praise of the other Hawks that played with him. When you contribute as he did, when you recieve the praise of your fellow players and your team wins the game because "The kid is not that good" and he played over his head, what more could you ask? That makes him a hero, I believe!! It's all over and he's gone so I guess it doesn't matter now. But I admit it was a great way to leave and feel good about what you accomplished, playing that many minutes and having your team win.
