DJ_Money
...and what could be a major overhaul of this team. Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Theo Ratliff, Glenn Robinson, Alan Henderson, and Chris Crawford all come off the books. That's over $49 million dollars. With that money, we could go on a massive shopping spree. That being said, I went and compiled a list of all the potential Free Agents in that year. Please note, however, that many of these guys may not be unrestricted. The rookie class of 2001 will be RFAs, the class of 2002 will all be on team options. Other player have team or player options that could kick in. Kobe Bryant, for example, has the option to become a UFA next summer. If he picks up his option, he will stay in LA another year, and be there in '05. I can say, though, that Iverson, Marbury, and Allen are all UFAs. Anyone else you're interested in, go check hoopshype.com, that's how I compiled the list. So, here's the rough list. It's a little long... Potential FAs: Antoine Walker Donyell Marshall Tyson Chandler Eddy Curry Zydrunas Illgauskas Steve Nash Marcus Camby Rodney White Jason Richardson Troy Murphy Cuttino Mobley Eddie Griffin Jamaal Tinsley Chris Wilcox Kobe Bryant Kareem Rush Devean George Pau Gasol Mike Miller Shane Battier Eddie Jones Caron Butler Desmond Mason Troy Hudson Kerry Kittles Kenyon Martin Richard Jefferson Jamal Mashburn Latrell Spreewell Kurt Thomas Allen Iverson Keith Van Horn Eric Snow Stephon Marbury Amare Stoudamire Joe Johnson Zach Randolph Bobby Jackson Hedo Turkoglu Bruce Bowen Tony Parker Ray Allen Vladimir Radmanovic Morris Peterson Andrei Kirilenko Jerry Stackhouse Kwame Brown Brendan Haywood Juan Dixon Jared Jeffries

Premium Member Diesel Posted May 22, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted May 22, 2003 Being somewhat Realistic. Parker/Stack/George/Stoudamire/Heywood. Could be the NEW Hawks!! Parker FA acquisition. George/1st from Lakers for JT. SAR for Heywood/Stack. Stoudamire wants to come home to Atown after being with Marbury too long. That would be an interesting team...> Centered around Amare of course.
Admin chillzatl Posted May 22, 2003 Admin Report Share Posted May 22, 2003 What makes you think ANY big free agent would want to come here? It's nice to dream but you have to be realistic. If we play like [censored] until `05 and then let all those players walk, do you really think anyone is going to want to come here for our money when they could just as easily go elsewehre and get the same? Premium Member Diesel Posted May 22, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted May 22, 2003 We have to watch the Nuggets this year for the Answer. If they are able to get Arenas/Odom and James like everybody say they will.... It might be a notice that going for broke is the way to do it: Camby/Nene/Odom/James/Arenas.... Add some depth to that team and I'm afraid to play them.
DJ_Money
Who said we had to tank anything? We're just headed back in to rebuilding mode? We remain dormant until 2005, I guess. The team we have now should get us 30 wins, so we pick up a couple lottery picks along the way. Here's what we do until then: Sign JT to a medium-sized deal this summer. Bring in journeymen to fill the roster out. No big deals, none more than two years. Smitty and K. Anderson pop into mind first. So, in the summer of '05 we have JT, Nazr, and any draft picks we get over the next couple years. So, I'd say we're sitting at about $20 million, give or take a few. That's enough to sign two max players and a couple complementary pieces, and still remain under the cap. What the [censored] motivated McGrady and Hill to sign with Orlando? Shaq and Penny had fleed town. Why did Duncan stay in San Antonio? Why does Kobe want out of LA? If the money is there, somebody will come. If say, the Lakers, can offer an equal deal to Player X, he should go with LA. But, we have $49 million to spend. We can outbid any team in the NBA. Guest
Because people want to play in Orlando...Nobody wants to play here other than Journeymen needing a contract like Kenny Anderson and Steve Smith.
