Premium Member Diesel Posted May 23, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted May 23, 2003 OK... Detroit better not turn down Carmello Anthony. However, Darko might be theirs. If So. They'd have: Billups/Rip/Prince/Wallace/Darko. That's pretty good. BUT... How does this sound: Theo for Prince/Okur/Billups. That leaves them with: Atkins/Rip/Anthony/Wallace/Theo.. I would have to believe that makes them the strongest defensive team ever.
Premium Member mrhonline Posted May 23, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted May 23, 2003 Personally, I think Detroit would be stupid to make a trade unless it brought them back a legit center in return. If they pick Anthony: Billups/Hamilton/Anthony/Robinson/Wallace With a bench of: Atkins/Barry/Prince/Williamson/Okur/Rebraca That's 11 solid players... Either way, my guess is that either Williamson or Robinson are available for the right price.
Premium Member mrhonline Posted May 23, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted May 23, 2003 They're reporting that Detroit loves Darko, so that would leave them: Billups/Atkins Hamilton/Barry? (his minutes are way down...) Prince/Wmson Darko/Robinson Wallace/Okur/Rebraca How are they going to be able to give the young guys enough minutes? How about Big Dog for Corliss/Rebraca? They pick up a great scorer for little...
Admin chillzatl Posted May 23, 2003 Admin Report Share Posted May 23, 2003 They need a good PF. Cliff Robinson isnt' it. They are stacked at the 1-3. Darko fits their needs.
Premium Member mrhonline Posted May 23, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted May 23, 2003 If a filler is added like Pepe Sanchez, Atlanta trades: SF Glenn Robinson (20.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.0 apg in 37.5 minutes) Atlanta receives: PG Pepe Sanchez (0.0 ppg, 0.7 rpg, 0.9 apg in 4.1 minutes) C Zeljko Rebracca (6.6 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 16.3 minutes) SF Corliss Williamson (12.0 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.3 apg in 25.1 minutes) Change in team outlook: -2.2 ppg, +1.6 rpg, and -0.5 apg. Detroit trades: PG Pepe Sanchez (0.0 ppg, 0.7 rpg, 0.9 apg in 4.1 minutes) C Zeljko Rebracca (6.6 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 16.3 minutes) SF Corliss Williamson (12.0 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.3 apg in 25.1 minutes) Detroit receives: SF Glenn Robinson (20.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.0 apg in 69 games) Change in team outlook: +2.2 ppg, -1.6 rpg, and +0.5 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED JT/DD/Sanchez Glover/DJ Corliss/#21/CC SAR/AH Theo/Rebraca/Nazr Corliss gives us a chance for the young SF we draft to develop, while Rebraca gives cap relief after next year... ($6.5 million diff. b/n G. Robinson & Williamson's contracts). Plus, if Rebraca works out, it makes Nazr guiltless trade bait. Why does Detroit do it? Why not? They pay a little extra in 2004-5, but Big Dog will be a great asset at the trading deadline that year if he doesn't mesh well. Prince could play a little at SG when Hamilton sits... Billups/Atkins Hamilton/Prince/Davis G. Robinson/Curry Wallace/C. Robinson Darko/Okur
DJ_Money
Um...but why would a hard-working, team-oriented, defensive-minded team like Detroit want an overpaid, lazy, no D ball hog like Big Dog. Especially, when they have a young stud in Prince playing the position. C'mon, let's be honest...
Premium Member mrhonline Posted May 23, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted May 23, 2003 Prince is a good player, don't get me wrong, but he's too young, too thin, and too inconsistent to rely upon at this point. "Stud" isn't the best word to describe him at this point. Either way, he would still get plenty of minutes (25-30/game?)coming off the bench at the 2/3. Detroit has the luxury of being able to compete now & has cap flexibility in the near future. The salaries basically even out in 2003-4, and although they take on $6.5 extra in 2004-5, they have almost that much coming off the books between Hubert Davis & Michael Curry's salaries alone... Big Dog would actually be an upgrade over the contributions Rebraca & Corliss give them, and his defensive lapses would be a lot easier to cover up with Wallace behind him. Plus, unlike Atlanta, Detroit could afford to bench Big Dog at times when they really need a defensive stop. So again, why not? Personally, I think the real question would be if Atlanta could get more for Big Dog from another team.
jaywalker72
Cliffy and Ben Wallace are whom Rick Carlisle bases their defense around. I know that sounds nuts, but it's true. This season, when asked by RealGM's WAS beat writer, how Rick got Richard Hamilton to play defense, Carlisle explained how the defense is built around the skills of Robinson and Wallace, and really all the other guys have to do is play their roles and the defense works. I doubt you will see DET spill on Robinson...but that's just my penny on the matter...
cyman3
I think DETROIT has good enuf defense to gamble on this one and get by. But wouldnt it be funny if this trade did occur and DETROIT suddenly became one of the worse NBA DEFENSIVE TEAMS? lol... i can see it happen already
TJ_Swann
Why would Detroit trade for Theo or G. Rob. Ben Wallace is better than Theo Ratliff at this stage. Glenn Robinson is better than Corliss Williamson. But Tayshaun Prince is the heir apparent SF on the team. G. Rob would bog them down like he's done us. It don't make sense. Ease up on some these wild trade ideas Diesel.
