Al Horford can play some D!!

Another rookie making an impact is Atlanta’s Al Horford. In the games he’s started (17 as center, one as power forward), his opposing position player has averaged 8.3 points per game. That’s the lowest average versus any starter in the NBA (minimum 15 starts). And the .389 field-goal percentage by opposing starters is the lowest versus any frontcourt starter..

Horford, Smith, MWilliams, Johnson, and Law are the best 5, especially in terms of a reasonable starting five.

Hawks need another SG that can play D more than they need a C at this point. Shelden and Zaza can provide enough backup minutes at C to get by.

Agreed.

5 guys who can push the floor.

If it's not broke, why fix it?

So many people are stuck in the coventional frame of mind with the 7 footer.

Clearly Al has shown he is capable of playing C in this league and clearly the dominant 7 footer isn't exactly prevalent in the league as it used to be.

What we really need to do is let Mario West get more playing time as well as Solomon Jones

I know Solomon can be just as effective as Zaza and Shelden on D. And he's athletic enough to run the floor on O.

Even Zaza is stronger than him.

What good does strength do for Zaza when he bites on every single pump fake and doesn't know how to play zone defense?

Solomon makes up for his lack of bulk with athleticism.

The dude has the highest extension on paper in the entire NBA.

Even higher than Dwight Howard.

He is a longer version of Tyrus Thomas basically.

He also is a fouling machine, and isn't really good for much except how fast he can run from one end of the court to another.

There's a reason he gets no PT.

And Zaza is a fouling machine who can't rebound.

Solo can rebound.

Solo hasn't even been given enough PT this year for you to even say he's a fouling machine

Very astute comments that I totally agree with. Solomon Jones needs to play more. Period. End of story. Zaza may have a lot more weight and a few inches on him, but what good does that do when you consistently play BELOW your weight and height. Zaza is 280 pounds...but plays like he is 180. It's ridiculous. Is Solomon Dwight Howard, Shaq, Mourning, Stoudemire, or some other legit big? No. Solomon is an athletic big that admittedly needs to get stronger; however, he can provide great athleticism, rebounding, blocked shots in limited PT. All he does is ride the pine. My Dad and I say all the time, "Woody is going to lose this kid if he doesn't play him."

Neither one of them are all that good. Zaza is better than Solo though - primarily based on strength. Zaza is a good backup C. Solo should not be in the nba.

Based on what?

The guy doesn't even get a freaking chance!

We wouldn't even know that Mario West belonged in the NBA unless by fluke we had all these injuries

We just happened to have more depth down low than in our backcourt

But if we want to have the best team we can have we put Al at PF. JS at SF.

Poster just can't let this sh_t go! Anyone who thinks that JS is a better Small forward than Marvin or better at Small forward than at power forward can't be watching too many games. Let me make this clear, JS is the 4th best Small forward on this team behind JJ, Marvin and Childress!
