Sitting here at work around 2:45 on a completely boring Friday, and I started thinking about videos I thought were "cool" while growing up. I should note I just turned 40?!?!! So, I suppose this is a bit of reminising.

At any rate, I was around for the beginnings of MTv (yes they did show videos 24-7 at one point!). So here is a list of some of my favs (from those early years):

All out cool:

Money for Nothing- Dire Straights- animated using computer graphics circa 1984-5

Rainbow in the Dark- Dio- little dwarf and can sing and wield a two-handed sword!

Sexiest:

Could go with any Madonna video here (esp. Like a Virgin or Respect Yourself), but I will go with something a little more obscure:

Girls on Film- Duran Duran- seeing it uncensored on Cinemax at age 14 or 15 that was one hot vid

Wierd:

Major Tom- David Bowie- that was an acid trip or what?

That Herbie Hancock vid with the animatronics, can't remember the name of the tune...

Concert/Live:

Synchronicity- Police- I went to that concert!

Sappy:

Jack and Diane- Mellencamp, I wanted to be 16 when I saw that, come to think of it, I want to be 16 now when I see it...

Political/Alternative:

New Year's Day- U2- one of my favorite vids, just them in the snow, but its a great statement

I am missing a ton of vids here, so contribute to the list...

I know I'm very partial, but I love the last video my brother's band shot. It was done somewhere in Pennsylvania. The song is called Wolves and it's about girls who dress certain ways to get attention, but they're just "wolves in sheep's clothing". The concept is pretty cool. You can go to youtube and type in Chasing Victory. They've got a ton of vids on there, but that one is usually near the top. My brother's the singer in case your wondering.

I distinctly remember when Micheal Jackson's "Thriller" came on MTV for the first time. I remember that thing was so big, they were actually playing it in the Belk's department store, and I mean the full length video too!

Hot'lanta, Great video! I forgot about it. As I said there is a ton of stuff I am missing. Metallica, one of my favorite groups.

Re: Tool. My current fav band, but I was out of college when they started, so I really didn't see much of thier video stuff. I do play their music constantly though.
