Are you in high school or have you graduated already? If your in High School your guidance counselor should be able to help you research these questions.

There's always DeVry, Southern Tech, and Georgia State University .

It just depends on what you're looking for.

Georgia state isn't computers only. I went to GSU. It's a university with a full academic curriculum.

Hood- Are you just trying to get certified etc.? Or do you need to learn the whole gambit? Southern Tech is probably the best of the ones Diesel mentioned for your needs. Atlanta University and Clayton State offer programs as well.

Georgia State is way out of my range. im just trying to get certified.

I went to a school where they only taught HVACR and you could get your epa and certification. didnt ask for your High school gpa.

Im basically looking for a school like that except with computers and/or the careers i already listed.

I'm not sure what an internet specialist really is to be honest, and I've been an systems admin and consultant for upwards of 15 years now.

Computer Engineer is also a very broad term.

If you're looking to get into the computer field these days, it pretty much breaks down into two catagories: Development or networking

Development covers everything from web design/development, programming database design and development, etc.

Networking covers the actual networking of systems as well as maintaining, repairing and sometimes building systems (desktop support). That's usually where you will start out if you're new to the field.

You need to ask yourself what you think you'll enjoy most. do you build your own computers? Do you enjoy that? have you ever sat down and tried to read a book on web development and then create a web page? They are very different in what they demand of you. In both cases you're a few years away from making real money, though it's easier to get an entry level job in networking/desktop support.

In either case you can find classes at Devry or any of the modern technical colleges (chatahoochee tech, etc).

ask if you have any other questions.

Thanks Chillzatl,

The development field sounds like what I was looking for. Im not into building computers. Thats what i want to do, but now its what schools offer them. I would really like going somewhere i dont close and focus only on computers. I don't want to do a math, social studies, science class. Like i said earlier the HVACR class i was taking i only only teached HVACR and nothing else.

so if there is any schools like that please let me know. or anything close to that.

The only other thing i might be in to that has nothing to do with computers is videography.

So you want to learn a specific computer trait without getting an actual degree? Not sure if that's the smart thing to do man. There are a lot of "computer specialists" out there with 2 and 4 year degrees who are looking for work. You're going to join that pool without an actual degree. If that's the path you truly want why even go to college? There are plent of books and online courses where you can teach yourself how to program or develop. Why pay someone to do what you can do on your own?

Clayton State isn't bad for I.T. if thats what you're pursuing. I don't know too much about that field, but in the Communications & Media Studies Program that I'm in we have a couple of Videography courses if you're interested. Theres Video production & Video postproduction (using final cut) and there are also a couple of film analysis courses that you can take. Being from Jonesboro also, Clayton State is right up the street and is a lot cheaper than most 4 year Universities in the State.
