HawkTodd
THE DAILY (9-2-03). http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_5120.shtml Atlanta - The rumor currently circulating around about Shareef Abdur-Rahim being sent from Atlanta to Houston for Glen Rice and Eddie Griffin just won't die. On the surface it looks completely ridiculous for Atlanta, but there are some good points. .................................................................................... Timberwolves part with Mike Wilks (8-2-03). http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20...52844-6810r.htm Wilks signed a 10-day contract with Minnesota on Feb. 12, then inked a deal for the remainder of the season on Feb. 22. He played in 31 of the team's final 32 games, averaging 2.0 points and 10.5 minutes per contest. He also played 15 games with the Atlanta Hawks earlier in the 2002-03 season. .................................................................................... Premium Member Diesel Posted September 3, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted September 3, 2003 We should go out and sign Mike Wilks. We know that he can play the PG position. He might be the guy to force JT either into a contract with us or to force a SNT. Either way, I'm not that upset if we have Wilks. IF you think about it realistically, Wilks enables us to trade for a SG. In my mind, I was think about this the other day. I know it's not possible but MAYBE....JT/Theo to Seattle. James to Utah. Lewis/Potapenko to Atlanta. I think it puts everybody where they want to be. Theo/Collison/Radm/Allen/JT in Seattle. James splits time with Clark in Utah. We get: Potapenko/SAR/Lewis/Diaw/Wilks. Boondocks
I like Wilks too In reply to: Wilks released The Timberwolves rescinded their qualifying offer to point guard Mike Wilks, who asked for his release because he didn't think he could make the team. The Timberwolves already have Sam Cassell, whom they acquired this summer, and Troy Hudson at point guard. Diesel, however eventhough I love Rashard Lewis, I really don't want anything to do with Potapenko who's an injury waiting to happen.
Gray Mule
Since he has been released, is not an outstanding free agent, demanding a huge contract, Therefore: Be it resolved that the Hawks having more than one empty slot on their roster, could use a little excitement and Wilks has been a Hawk before and many of us likes him and The price should be right and Therefore: Be it further resolved --- Sign the rascal !!!!!!! kelston827
Signing Wilks would be a good idea. In doing so, in no way would that makeme consider a SNT with JT. The Hawks need to hold onto JT and re-sign DJ. A backcourt of: JT/Wilks/Dickau DJ/Hansen is about the best we could wish for at this point. Admin capstone21 Posted September 3, 2003 Admin Report Share Posted September 3, 2003 Wilks is a decent player but that is not where our needs are. We need SFs and SGs.
Admin
While it was nice to have Wilks here and he is a decent player, he doesnt fill a need for us unless JT is traded, at which point he could become DD's backup.......but thats a scary thought because I dont think Dickau is ready to start yet. This team definitely has a need for SGs and SFs and thats where our FA attention should be, primarily at SG right now because with Diaw, SAR, and Theo on the court all being non shooters we definitely need an additional shooter to pair with JT. Gray Mule
We need shooters - True. We need to fill the foreward positions - True. If we sign J.T., we still have 3 openings on the roster. {That is, if we carry only 12, which we are supposed to be doing} Another P.F. -- Another S.F. -- That's 11. Still, we have room for one more. Who will it be? Don't most teams carry more than 12, especially up until the regular season starts? I have noticed some teams with 15 guaranteed contracts and hunting more players. Not suggesting a large, long term contract for Wilks, but I would like for us to give him another chance.
Admin capstone21 Posted September 3, 2003 Admin Report Share Posted September 3, 2003 We are set at PF with SAR and Hendu. Right now we need a SG (Hansen is not ready for the NBA) and a SF. Depending on what position Diaw plays, we will need another swingman. That will take us up to 12. Smith/Glover/DJ/Stephen Jackson/Vashon Leandard. I have a feeling we will sign 3 of those 5 players. JT/DD FA/FA/Hansen Diaw/FA/CC (will he ever play?) SAR/Hendu Theo/Nazr
Guest
Your obsession with a scrub like Mike Wilks(Who can't even seem to make a team) is not understandable. Shouldn't we be looking at players that are actually good?
Gray Mule
We did win some games when he was here. Who cares if he is "a scrub" if Hawks can win with him ???
Premium Member Diesel Posted September 4, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted September 4, 2003 If this deal was available, I would take it quickly. Wilks/Diaw?/Lewis/Reef/Potapenko would do better than what we have now simply because of the way that that team is built. The only thing that worries me is the possibility of resigning Lewis. Boondocks
Well in retrospect I could live with Potapenko, thought he had more then 2 yrs left (aka he has 2 years left -). As for why sign Wilks, yes why would we sign a young promising player, oh and hopefully we'll have a larger roster then 12 with McDavid (any word on that btw?).
