sillent
Josh understands that he won't have his athleticism forever. He wants to still be relevant in this league after all that is said and done. It's very understandable why he refuses to give up trying his jump shot and I'm sure he will eventually have it down pack but for now he needs to redirect it. What's the best way to practice your shot and get a feel for it? Free throws !! Josh needs to spend more time focusing on making his free throws and watching his shot go in on a regular. That way it will prepare him more for his in game jumper. Use your current strengths to perfect your weaknesses. With his ability to do damage inside it will cause trouble for those defending him and give him plenty of free throw opportunities. Why not get those shots and treat them as if they were in game shots that Josh loves to attempt. You get those free throws down pack and then start shooting his jumper again and I bet he will see a big difference. Josh is not scared of the pressure of making the big shots he just lacks the concentration to make them. He has to deal with wondering if the crowd is going to boo him for even taking them and all of the doubters on court and off court. Free throws are the ultimate concentrated shot until you get them down from repetition. Once your shot becomes automatic like McGrady said "you don't lose it, it's like riding a bike". Let's give Josh a bike with training wheels "free throws" and encourage him to take those seriously. Believe me or not Josh has a shot or at least the form for a nice shot he is just lacking concentration. He's not going to stop taking them and jeopardize furthering his career as his athleticism dwindles. Booing him is not helping and he shouldn't be booed for all the other intangibles he brings for us on the court. Let's baby him a little and get a little more excited when he takes and makes free throws. I know it sounds petty but it just might be the encouragement needed to make Josh the best player he could possibly be for us. We know he has grown and matured a lot but he still has some what of a young mentality. Let's be a little more understanding on his side and try to redirect how he chooses to go about this particular learning process.

Guest
This is why Josh will never make the all-star team - doesn't play to his strength for right now. Why worry about down the line and losing athleticism, you play today to be successful for now. Jordan had a world of athleticism and used it to his advantage by attacking the rim, as time went on and he lost step after step you see the changes in his game - in the post and the 3-pt shot. MaceCase
All he's ensuring is that he doesn't have a job past 28 if he's making the jumper his focus rather than solidifying what he's actually good at.
Moderators AHF Posted January 6, 2012 Moderators Report Share Posted January 6, 2012 All he's ensuring is that he doesn't have a job past 28 if he's making the jumper his focus rather than solidifying what he's actually good at. That is overstating it. He will definitely still have a job past 28 if he is remotely healthy. The comment about him never making the All-Star team until he plays to his strengths close to the basket, however, is probably right on point.
Bahamut
I hope he keeps the 75-footers to a minimum tonight.
