Went to todays' Scrimmage @ Phillips

So for yall that didn't know, the Hawks held a "Tip-Off" event today @Phillips. Earlier on the majority of the players signed autographs, shot 3-pointers, skill competitions, and other events with the fans. After all the beginning festivities were over they began the scrimmage. It consisted of two 10 minute periods and although there wasn't much to brag about two players really stood out to me.Mike Scott is totally legit. His offensive game has transitioned very well to the NBA and he was actually grabbing some nice boards as well. I can easily see him contributing now and down the road. The second player is Kyle Korver, for his limitations on defense he totally makes up for them on the offensive end. He was lights out on most shots and also showed some impressive defensive flashes. If yall would like to know any more info about how a particular player performed please let me know in the comments below!

Is was pleased and surprised by Scott. Ivan is obviously in great shape. It is conceivable to see Ivan, Scott and Toliver on the court together allowing Zaza to start with Al and Josh. Damon James is making a case for a 15 player roster. I'm not concerned about the 3 position but we have a glut at the two. I suppose someone is traded for a pick or center before the trade line. Oh, and besides being 7 foot, Petro is just that. I'd rather have Ivan at 6'8"ish at the 5 than Petro. If his contract were not guaranted he would be cut. I ain't hatin, just sayin.

Thanks! I RSVP'd but couldn't make it. How about James Anderson and Damion James? And how did the point guards look distributing the ball? ~lw3

Firstly, thanks for asking! It's a bummer you couldn't make it, it would've been great to see some fellow 'Squawkers! To me, Anderson didn't quite stand out but one thing I did notice about him was the fact that he is not afraid to take a contested shot that's for sure. I believe he hit a very nice 3 over Damion James in the first period. Damion was also pretty solid he didn't have a great game but he made solid contributions on both ends of the floor. The guy also has a motor as well. He does not give up on plays. PG movement was very interesting Teague wasn't able to compete due to an ankle injury but I don't expect it to be a major concern. I am VERY excited about Devin Harris. He did very well running the point and setting guys up. LD is also mixing up some new plays so some of the guys had trouble going to a particular spot at times. Lou Will will be our Joe Johnson especially in clutch situations. He got a very nice bucket with time running out at the end of the 1st. His ball handling is also very similar to Joe (at least that's how I see it) the only problem he has is setting players up.

Petro is by far the worst player on the court in terms of talent but the fact that he is 7 foot will guarantee him a spot. I also expect Ivan to get more touches on the offensive end. The ball would always make its way to him. He has definitely improved. If I had to guess I would say the hawks will cut Anderson but he is to good to cut ties with. Expect him to go to our D-League affiliate.
