ATL_BALLER
...for Deshawn, Tolly and Ivan? They're not coveted players, and they're clogging capspace (which we may or may not use, I know). We can always renounce and re-sign. Is it just to preserve their Bird rights in the event we make another major move and preserve the ability to go over the cap to sign them? Not that the ASG is venturing into that territory anytime soon. And even then these guys would be end-of-bench fodder. I guess you could argue that if we're not signing anyone else, it doesn't hurt anything to keep them on board. Just curious what the thinking is there, though. ATL_BALLER
None of them have Bird Rights. We keep them around because we don't need the cap space right now. Unless you have a move on the horizon, do not renounce anyone. That is pretty much standard operating procedure in the NBA. Out of respect for the players? nathan2331
Out of respect for the players?I think because there assets that can be held until another move is made. We gain nothing at the moment by renouncing them so we might as well keep their cap holds.
KB21
Also, Deshawn Stevenson isn't on a cap hold. He's under contract. It just isn't guaranteed. Tolliver is the only one with a cap hold. The Hawks didn't offer Ivan Johnson a qualifying offer, so therefore, I don't think they have a cap hold on him.
Moderators macdaddy Posted July 24, 2013 Moderators Report Share Posted July 24, 2013 I'm no expert but in Deshawn's case we could use him to fill out a trade right? do get the salaries to match. So it may make the difference between being able to do a trade or not.
