Moderators AHF Posted September 3, 2014 Moderators Report Share Posted September 3, 2014 The real tragedy here is the Hawks could have picked Rondo in the draft but picked Shelden 16 picks before Rondo went. But we didn't need a PG. We had Ty Lue and would go on to sign Speedy Claxton and Anthony Johnson so we were set. jk Nods. We also traded the pick that was used to select Rondo as part of the deal for Joe Johnson. There has been a lot of debate as to whether that was necessary and if we could have just dealt our own pick and Diaw for him, we could have drafted Brandon Roy and Rajon Rondo that year. That would have made for a pretty good backcourt to go with JJ (at SF) and Josh Smith. Of course, we probably don't end up with Horford the next year if that plays out. Guest
Rondo has perfected the art of turning the assist into a selfish stat. I imagine folks are waiting to see if he's even fully healthy and whether or not he was a product of being surrounded by HOFers. He'll probably end up in Houston. Moderators AHF Posted September 4, 2014 Moderators Report Share Posted September 4, 2014 Health and salary are Rondo's two biggest question marks, IMO.
DrReality
Don't think Rondo makes us better. Not sure he fits in Bud's system.
Guest
Rondo is average defensively at best. Please tell me you're kidding? Rondo is a top flight defensive point guard in the league. For those who don't think Rondo is a major upgrade over Teague, stop fooling yourself. Top 3 pg in the nba hands down.

All these guys would seem to disagree.... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1734626-ranking-the-best-defensive-point-guards-in-the-nba/page/20 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_All-Defensive_Team (back to back 1st team followed by a 2nd team) http://www.ranker.com/list/the-greatest-defensive-pg-and-_39_s-in-nba-history-/amjbmcg (ranked top 10 of all-time) I'd take the two articles with a grain of salt since they're opinions, but the All Defensive Team selections are solid validation that he's a great perimeter defender. Say he's not much of an upgrade to Teague is hard to defend or defeat since there's so many variables, but a comment like he's not a great defender is a misinformed statement at the least. Rondo has never been a great on ball defender I will continue to say this because it is truth. Defense encompasses several things. He may be good at rebounding, playing passing lanes, etc. but he is not good at on ball defense.

Moderators AHF Posted September 7, 2014 Moderators Report Share Posted September 7, 2014 Rondo is an excellent on the ball defender. NBA GM Survey #2 Perimeter Defender in NBA http://www.nba.com/news/features/2012-gm-survey/ Who is the best perimeter defender in the NBA? 1. Tony Allen, Memphis -- 26.9% 2. Rajon Rondo, Boston -- 15.4% #3 Perimeter Defender in NBA http://www.nba.com/news/2012-13-gm-survey/index.html?rss=true You will also Rondo's name associated with best passer (in the #2-4 range), best basketball IQ (around #5), and various other items on these General Manager surveys (toughest, potential breakout, best point guard, etc.). I think we all just need to agree to disagree on this one. Mr. Meltdown has his opinion set and he is entitled to it. It is clearly out of line with both fan and GM opinion. It is not on ball defense that sets him apart Whoah. Check the facts brother. Playoff Career Head to Head....... Their PPG are identical. Rondo held Rose to 19.7 PPG vs. his career avg. of 20.8 PPG and Rose avg. 6.4 APG and 5.0 TOPG!!!!! Regular season is a little better for Rose, but still not helping your argument. The only positive stat for Rose was his FG% was good which does indicate closer shots, but by your logic, a healthy Jeff Teague is as good as Derrick Rose since Teague matched him in a single playoff series a few years ago.
