NBASupes
If we think we aren't then that's a problem IMHO. Imagine if Payne had been the player we expected him to be. Don't get me wrong, I certainly see what you're saying. If we draft a wing he could play behind Thabo. A big could be behind Horford/Sap or w/e. However, we all saw that we needed more. If either DMC or Sap leaves, would you still feel we can afford to redshirt this year's pick? Whoever we draft will get limited minutes, not so much of a redshirt year as they will spend time in the D-League. It's hard to play guys out of draft early when you a playoff team unless they are a specialist.
Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted June 23, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted June 23, 2015 G'morning! Y'all mind if I slip this one over to the NBA Draft Talk board? It IS Draft Week, but this topic's so player-specific I'm tempted to shift the discussion over there. ~lw3

I guess I'm still attached to the pipedream of having a rookie actually come in and do more than just get jettisoned to the dleague. My dream is we can get someone to come in and replace Baze or Pero in the rotation basically. Oubre I just feel will be Cory Brewer at best which I guess is ok but not the 'star' people are expecting. KG, I kinda feel you. Right now, my short list if filled with Guys who we don't know about: Oubre, Hollins-Jefferson, Kaminski, Dekker, Hunter, and Portis. Honestly, I really like Portis a lot but the need might not be there. I love Hollins-J defense... but he can't shoot. And I haven't heard anything bad about Kaminski or Dekker but just have an overwhelming feeling that they are soft. However, I would bypass that feeling based on what Bud says. I'm cooling on Portis the more I read about him. Many people saying they come away unimpressed or indifferent after seeing him play. I'm stuck on the Rashad Vaughn kid so I'm hoping we can trade down and pickup an asset in which case we'd still be able to grab him. G'morning! Flight
I don't think we're in dire need of a player to play from day 1. We won 60 games this year and we're bringing back the complete core most likely. We have time to develop players and not throw them straight into the fire

Corey Brewer was no where near as talented or gifted as Oubre. True be told, I think his floor is much lower than Brewer out of college. If he gets to Brewer's level, he did okay if he was drafted by a team in the 20's. A bust if drafted in the teens. Like Dennis, his ceiling is so far from his floor, I don't have a measuring point but I can say this. He has a chance to be a superstar if developed right and he works extremely hard. NBASupes
How would Oubre compare with a young Thabo? Young Thabo was much more raw and no where near the shooter or talent Oubre is and will be. Much more raw. As someone mention, Corey Brewer would be the closest comp but his ceiling is so high, it's impossible to compare. Thabo has some playmaking in him and he was more of a specialist even out of Europe. Oubre doesn't really have a define role.
