Per a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Atlanta Hawks have traded for DeAndre Liggins from the Los Angeles Clippers:

Atlanta won’t send any players back to Los Angeles, instead either sending a heavily-protected second-round pick or at least $75,000 in cash, the minimum they need to send to comply with NBA rules. Liggins will also be immediately waived by the Hawks, per Woj:

Liggins has a contract for $1,577,230 next season but just $26,773 is guaranteed, so the Hawks will eat that amount this season. It has yet to be reported what Los Angeles is sending along with Liggins to make this work the Hawks’ trouble, but a lightly-protected second-rounder is the most likely outcome.

John Jenkins was previously reported to be signed to the 20th and final offseason roster spot, but that signing will be delayed slightly—the trade and subsequent waiving of Liggins will have to take place before Jenkins can officially sign with the team.

We don't want Liggins.  The new GM wants a look at Jenkins.  Realistically, neither of them will make our NBA roster anyway.

Therefore, you pick up an asset for helping LAC create a trade exception.  Done.

Works for me.

Bingo. Snag yourself another draft pick, meanwhile create another dance partner...

Money. Just money.

It is either a pick or money (or a combination of both).  We create an exception for them.  It costs us some money.  Something is coming our way to more than make up for the money we give up.
