The other option of just calling this season what it is and moving on to draft/offseason mode just sounds, better? Not going to try to convince you one way or the other. To me, it comes down to this.... Which do you value more? 4-6 playoff games (in all likelihood) involving the Hawks; OR A top 10 pick in a weak draft Personally, it's a no brainer for me - I want the playoff games. Although I admit I'd be more excited about them if JJ was healthy. Still, nothing beats the playoffs, imo. So I'll take 4-6 games of exciting playoff energy as the pot of pyrite at the end of this crappy rainbow of a season.

KB21
I'd rather win and get into an extended playoff series than solidify a top 10 pick in this draft. I think the Hawks not converting Vit to a rest of season deal though significantly impairs our ability to beat Chicago.
Premium Member JeffS17 Posted April 15 Premium Member Report Share Posted April 15 Usually I'd prefer the playoffs but with JJ/Bey/OO all out and no Vit, I think we would get embarrassed by the Celtics if we made it in, and I don't want to watch us get swept. We'd have too many guys in the rotation that shouldn't be touching hardwood in a playoff series: Matthews, Mathews, Bruno, Forrest... JJ/OO are the two players I'd want getting playoff experience the most and they won't be out there. 3

Normally I’m the one spreading positivity but this season has been one of those one step forward, ten steps backwards - especially thinking about injuries. Moderators AHF Posted April 15 Moderators Report Share Posted April 15 Better than giving you my opinion, I think Hawks management is out in light of them not making Vit available. With no disrespect to Forrest who is a hard worker and baller, the cost was not that high to make him available and he has been a critical part of the rotation recently with that unlikely to change with JJ being out (and Bey and OO still out). The fact that they wouldn't spring Vit onto the roster for the playoffs tells me they don't care about winning or are actively trying not to win in order to hold onto the lottery pick.

Which is why these games need to count as something (I’ve said so much before). The fact we went into Miami, won and got the 7th seed never gets talked about. Miami was even down heading to the 4th quarter against the Bulls after that, so their magical run almost never happened.

Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted April 16 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted April 16 Trae Young eyes normal minutes for Hawks in play-in vs. Bulls Associated Press Apr 15, 2024, 09:16 PM ET LikeOpen Extended Reactions 5 ATLANTA -- A healthy Trae Young gives the Atlanta Hawks their best hope for overcoming season-long injury woes and advancing past the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament. Young hopes he can provide his normal production after playing three games at the end of the regular season. His minutes were restricted after missing 23 games with a torn ligament in his left pinkie, but he said he hopes to have his normal minutes in Wednesday night's game at Chicago. Young's return wasn't enough to prevent the Hawks from entering the play-in tournament with a six-game losing streak. He averaged 25.7 points in the regular season, but was limited to 14, 19 and 12 points in his three-game warmup for the play-in tournament. "I feel a lot better," Young said after Monday's practice, adding he gained confidence from seeing his playing time rise to 32 minutes in an ugly 157-115 loss at Indiana to close the regular season. Young had 12 points and 11 assists in the loss. "I'm just trying to make sure I can play at least close to my minutes that I played in the regular season in play-in games," Young said. After already losing forward Saddiq Bey to a season-ending knee injury, the Hawks will be without two other key players in their frontcourt, forward Jalen Johnson and center Onyeka Okongwu, for the play-in tournament. "That's just something, as I've said, really, it's no different than throughout the course of the year," coach Quin Snyder said. "The guys that you do have, they have to be ready to go and have to play at a high level, and you can't lament those things. So we'll be ready." Johnson, one of the team's most productive starters with his averages of 16.0 points and 8.7 rebounds, will miss at least three weeks with a right ankle sprain. Okongwu will miss at least four weeks following a non-surgical procedure last week to address inflammation in his left big toe. Okongwu averages 10.2 points and 6.8 rebounds. "Obviously you just play the cards you're dealt," Young said. "That's just my mentality. You know I feel like we can still win with the players we have, so I'm going to go out there and try to do it." https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/39951470/trae-young-eyes-normal-minutes-hawks-play-vs-bulls
