Hey, man.

I was wondering if you guys have done any clinical skills stuff yet? I'm interested in seeing the differences between medical schools and how quickly they get their students into the clinical skills aspets of things.

Here at Pikeville, they have use writing up complete H&Ps already, and we are doing focused physical exams in a controlled environment. Basically, we draw a particular exam like the abdomen or the heart and do the exam in front of one of the doctors on staff. So far, I've done a heart examination, mental status examination, and an ear examination.

I think it is cool that they get us into the clinical skills aspect so early. Next year, we will be getting out in the community with the doctors and doing H&Ps and exams in the clinical setting. They are getting us ready to jump right into things when third year rotations come along.

Well, I've got to type up an H&P for a fictional patient with an empyema.
