  1. I've been saying this for 3 years. It's a shame Woodson hasn't.
  2. No woman on earth knows as much about sports as I do. It's not even possible. I've wasted literally, thousands and thousands of hours contemplating various sports issues. What girl does that? Besides, they can't even really play two of our big 3 American sports. How can you know something unless you've experienced it? You can't. To the point where it is second nature, anyway. I would love to hear some girl trying to wax on, say, Norm Van Brocklin, off the top of my head. Yeah, right. He was one of the greatest football players to ever live and a former Falcons HC, btw. My girl knows what 5 or 6 Hawks players look like. That's good enough for me. I would have a problem if a girl didn't understand what I was saying in the above paragraph. However, I'm quite positive that some women have expertise in select fields and would undoubtedly know more about that sport. For instance, one of my good friends used to play basketball at a SportsLife health club. So did former Brave and Falcon Brian Jordan and his wife. He said that she was way better than him and was better than most guys. Who knows about her knowledge of the history of the game and those kinds of things, though. That is another component, as mentioned above, in the discussion of "knowing more".
  3. Who is this McKale? There is a Kevin McHale. He was just one of the greatest post scorers of all time and has been in the media ever since. That's really not a name to butcher. It makes you look like you just picked up a basketball for the first time a few days ago.
  4. I agree with you, but in the vacuum of the national anthem, I disagree. It doesn't really bother me. There are a number of last minute issues that could arise when dealing with only one instrument. Especially when it is a human one. In Whitney's case, we had just started Desert Storm and the moment was truly inspiring and patriotic for the whole country. There were old men crying in the stands and across America, I presume. She really sold the performance. The end justified the means, imo. As for Hudson, I think if anyone deserves to be cut a little slack, it is her.
  5. You guys do realize that the greatest singing of the national anthem was actually a recording, right? Whitney was lip-syncing during the great Giants-Bills SB. Does that change how you feel? One thing that Hot is missing, is that the anthem should be perfect. It's not about showing your talent or misleading someone. They don't sing the anthem so Hot can decide if he thinks they have talent and whether he should buy their album or not. That's usually an edited recording from a studio, btw. They sing, or play the anthem for us to feel pride and have a sense of Americanism. Jeez.
  6. It's nice to hear the chorus of truth finally coming from people here. This guy has had a pass for far too long. You hit the nail on the head with the "we" and "I" thing. People often question Josh Smith's basketball i.q. Well, dribbling for 15 seconds and launching a brick fade away j, as Joe often does, isn't exactly smart either. Neither is publicly supporting the re-hiring of the person that keeps the offense in a funk.
  7. I don't think she has ever been targeted to pre-teens, ala Miley Cirus. She's always been targeted to teens. Don't take this the wrong way, but your boy(and mine, too)Andre says much worse things with regularity. Tons of girls listen to rap. Lots of pre teen and barely teen girls listen to rap with absolutely disgusting lyrics. Why aren't you up in arms about that?
  8. It seems like the stripping is not "sexy", it's sad. The preview seems like it is in the mold of a "Crash", which I found to be extremely melodramatic and unrealistic. As far as Biel being hot, well, I'm into her but everyone has their thing. We're animals, man! Like personally, I think that Penelope Cruz is just hideously ugly. Jessica Biel has a Linda Evangalista type elegant facial structure that may not work for some people. Same with a Cate Blanchette. It works for me, though.
  9. That's nothing. There are quite a few people that can long jump. Check this out. I saw it earlier today. It's Adreian Wilson, Cardinals safety. Guy clears 66" on like two steps. It looks like it was in between sets or something while working out. Absolutely freakish. Guess no one will ever try to chop him on a blitz from now on! Everyone, watch this: ">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350">
  10. What are you trying to say? I'm assuming you are talking about the last thing she said. It seems to me that was a very distressed comment regarding the disparity of wealth and justice in America. I am far too intelligent to understand what kind of "point" you may think you are making. Therefore, I won't try. However, I would bet the amount of people that think Obama is a Muslim is 50x higher than any amount of black people that think Obama will be cutting blank checks to them. What are you trying to say, that many black people will want a handout? That is what you have just said. And so what if "lots" of people think that way? What you just posted was borderline racist and it's really pathetic that you can't just move on. Start a new thread if you feel so inclined, but to post this in this thread is just beyond tacky. Really, what is your point? Wait, I forgot, it's that lots of black people will want handouts. This thread was about the positivity of the day. If you don't have enough understanding of all of the complex levels of American History and what this means, you should just keep your thoughts to yourself. Get over it. Better yet, isn't there a Fixed News message board you could join?
  11. He got hurt in August. The timetable for that injury is a year, give or take a month or two. I heard him on the radio a few weeks ago and he said he felt good, he was on schedule and that he hoped to be back in August. If he can come back that is great, but the Braves have given themselves a chance again this year and Hudson coming back would only be a bonus.
  12. They have tried to. With Peavy and Vasquez. He's still on the team, though.
  13. I couldn't agree more, DJ. But this is just one step. I haven't been very proud of my country in a long time. Tomorrow I will be. He's the best man for the job and he's the president. That's the way it should be.
  14. I don't think anyone really cares what impresses you. Your ignorance of past playoff systems is obvious. Do you know that back in the 70's there were teams that went 12-2 and missed the playoffs. Just like in High School football today. The NFL system is easily the best. There is something to be said for wild card teams getting home field if they have a better record than a division winner. I don't agree, though. Winning a division is the goal. Anyone who thinks that isn't an accomplishment, probably never played on a team and certainly never won a division or league. By the way, anyone remember how the 49'ers became a dominant team? One major contributing factor was the 4 wins they got every year from Falcons and Saints. That made their path to the Super Bowl much easier than any other good team in the NFL. But those were the good ole days, right? Please. I really don't know what you're gripe is, but it is silly. These are professionals. Everyone is trying. This isn't USC in the Pac-10. That makes it harder. You've obviously never played football or you would have an appreciation for what Arizona has done. They are only the second 9-7 team to make the SB. It's not like it's an everyday issue. Why have a playoff if you only want to see the teams with the very best records play? You have to actually play the games. But you wouldn't know about that. You really shouldn't watch football if you don't respect the process. Seriously, what do you watch for? Exciting plays? Must be, because you don't seem to understand or appreciate the intricacies of the game.
  15. Ex, a lot of times in the south, they have the game blacked out or something else on even though it says it is the Hawks game. My friend in Tennessee has these regularly. There seems to be a problem with the Fox sports south vs fox sports net. I can't remember which one he says is always wrong. It has been a problem for years and I had the same issues in north Alabama last year. If you have league pass it should work, though. Graymule, try Channelsurfing.net if you can't get it on tv. But you have a legitimate gripe, and if you paid by credit card you could ask your card company to get involved if the cable people aren't trying to take care of you.
  16. I really like Campillo. He can win double digits. And then there is Glavine. If he's feeling good and he's motivated, which he surely is, then I'm totally satisfied with 4 and 5. That's completely discounting what Hanson could bring to the table.
  17. Hasn't been for anyone lately. He is good. He fields his position. He's a solid piece. Now, we need Lowe or Sheets. We would have a pretty good staff with an outstanding pen, provided they stay healthy this year. And let me say that I respect the team, and it was a team decision, to let Smoltz walk. What a jerk. I guess the $14 million he got for hanging out last year just wasn't enough respect. I don't want to get into that whole mess now, I don't have the time. But Smoltz is just dead wrong and I've lost a sizeable amount of respect for the only baseball player I've ever owned a jersey of. The Braves will be better than many people think. I think we can contend if things fall the right way. We still need another inning chewer, though.
  18. It's not hard for me to argue. His baskets never led to victories. He never came up big. He simply kept destroying flow and attempting to score for the duration of the game. Which, his team would invariably be losing by double digits. He scored more "garbage" baskets than anyone in history. He was a horrible low post defender, too. Remember, that is half of the game. He was just soft, man. We don't need that. Besides, he's in the Sactown front office now. Grant Long could teach these guys a few things, though.
  19. Reef was terrible, Coachx. If I only had a dollar for every time he didn't see or feel the double coming from the top, I'd have a few extra 50" tv's lying around. There is a big reason why he had one of the worst career records of any player to ever play the game. When you are the "star" and you get results out of your teams like he did, I think that speaks for itself. He had a loser's mentality and I don't want any of that near these Hawks. For God's sake, they already have Woody brushing off on a daily basis.
  20. I think the main thing is Salt Lake City and Utah. Dude must just hate it. Seriously, Sloan has really helped his career and why would you leave a team and a coach like that?
  21. Not really, imo. They are virtually the same size and both like to dribble in and create for others. Aesthetically, they both look a little ugly when doing so, though. Neither one has a very good jumper. They can both block shots in a way that few others can. They are both high energy momentum changers. He is the player most compared to Smoove for a reason. The money is in Miami from what I hear. Oh, and he lives there in the off-season. Seems like a sure bet.
  22. No wonder he has the best hands. He was a Vikings ball boy and got to take a really good look at Chris Carter on a daily basis.
  23. Yeah, Sloan would be perfect for Smoove. But you guys are forgetting a pretty big thing. Duplicity. They already have Josh Smith in the form of AK-47. No way on earth would they do this move. He's going to sign with Miami, anyway. It would be foolish to make a play for him.
  24. But it is a bunch of guys half jogging while 2 or 3 dudes 50 yds away are fighting for control of the ball. This is, in essence, 75% of the game. Do we need to watch a soccer match while in a chat or something? I can show you literally, minutes pass, where virtually nothing happened except for a change of possession. Are you trying to tell me that guys on one side of the field don't sometimes stand or half jog for minutes at a time? Seriously. I'm not just talking smack here. That is the truth. Even at it's highest form. It is still amazingly boring to watch, and I'm assuming very frustrating to play. That's the allure, right? Doesn't work for me in the slightest. The reason those guys were given a chance in football, is because they are amazing athletes, or gifted with tremendous size. Since you seem to think anyone can play football, why haven't they offered any tryouts for soccer stars? Really, why? Because they aren't big or strong enough. And the ones that are don't know how to use their hands. Not to mention the whole getting hit thing. Not a whole lot of former soccer players clamoring to be football players. I find your scoring a little off. Most people would probably be happy if they saw 5 scored goals in a soccer match. They usually don't. At least at the highest level. And you are missing the point about scoring. At least in football, your matriculation is a tangible thing that you can hold onto(i.e. field position). That is why a long pass or run is remembered as a big play. Do you remember a guy dribbling through 4 guys and the losing the ball at the last minute? No. Because it lead to nothing. I'm not saying they aren't good athletes. I just don't even begin to find the complexity of kicking a ball in a non contact sport. To me, virtually every position on a football field requires more "skill" than any position on a soccer field. What does a soccer player do? He dribbles. What else? It would be nice to see a response about my last post. The tenuous nature of the dribble. and specifically this: I know you know this, but, just because everyone can touch a ball in one sport doesn't mean they are more skilled athletes. It seems like you are discriminating because of that factor. I highlighted a few things that each position does that shows skill. What are those things for each position in soccer?
  25. It's a very tenuous control, though. I understand the game well enough to understand why games are usually 1-0, or 0-0. It's because you never truly possess the ball or puck. It's so easy to lose it. How many times have you seen multiple, complicated, spur of the moment passes in basketball, that lead directly to a hoop? Nightly. Now, how many times have you seen that in soccer? Seriously, AHF. And of course the Brazilians look smooth. That's their thing. You mentioned skills. There are a number of specific skills that each position uses. A qb is usually a highly skilled athlete. Throwing a football is an art. And tackling is a skill, dude. Believe me, I'm not very big. But I was no Keith Brooking. What about rb's? They have to block, catch, sometimes throw and juke people. What about a highly skilled receiver going for a ball on the sideline? Have you ever seen what it takes for lineman to set up screens or pull lineman? It's precision. If that's not skill, what is? What about Dwight Freeney? Dude is very skilled. I could go on. I know you know this, but, just because everyone can touch a ball in one sport doesn't mean they are more skilled athletes. It seems like you are discriminating because of that factor. And we're not even getting into remembering plays. And defenses have to know what those plays are, too. Is being smart a skill? As for the cost thing, I was speaking of costs for parents. I'm not sure starting football outside of the U.S. is a good thing. Off the top of my head, we are the fattest nation on earth and size plays a big issue in the aesthetics of the game.
