  1. One thing we WOULDN'T be anymore is the Airball Factory
  2. Quote: i need yearly income for the following players Yeah, I need their income too. The payments on my fleet of Bentley's plus gas is starting to strain the ole bank account.
  3. I, personally, am not up for handicapping this team by paying Billups big money for 4 years when he's on the downside of his career.
  4. There are a few key words in there that should not go unignored. 1) Head case - not sure that he's a "head case" but he certainly can be disagreeable and I can see him being difficult to coach 2) Molded correctly - Obviously this means well coached. I think we can safely say he hasn't had the upper echelon of coaching during his NBA tenure It's where the two come together that will determine Josh Smith's success in this league. If he is given better coaching AND makes himself more coachable. A lot of people have commented about his BBIQ, and that can improve with good coaching and a willingness to learn. Josh Smith's got such great athletic ability that his ceiling will most likely be dictated by his own humility and willingness to follow his coaching. Otherwise he may become one of those guys that never reaches his full potential because "he knows best."
  5. Don't know why everyone's so intent on giving up Zaza for garbage. He's a serviceable backup C who's still young and his contract is fairly reasonable. I think Zaza is undervalued by Squawkers. Sure he had some tough moments as a backup last year, but he had a decent first year with the Hawks and is someone I expect to get quality minutes from now that he goes into the year knowing his role.
  6. I'd do this trade. It gives us a legit second option who can create for himself...something we sorely need if we're to advance in the playoffs.
  7. Actually, I kind of agree. He'll get offered $11M by someone, and I'm not sure that's overpaying him. I do agree that he'll never be the team leader, on or off the court. I know there are a lot of people on here who love Smoove, and I think he's a really talented player, but let's call a spade a spade. The guy is good, probably even make the all star team a few years, but he'll never be a 'go to' guy. He's very active, great weak side defender, excellent slasher, but he'll never shut down your opponents best player or create his own shot the way your 'go to' guy is supposed to do.
  8. You should put a Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down poll at the bottom of the "trade of the day" posts. I'd be curious to see how some of them come out... Having said that, I have to vote Thumbs Down on this one. JO is more likely to end up on a gurney than an All-Star team these days, and JT + Atlanta night life = jail time.
  9. If I thought there was any chance Chicago would give us Noah and the #1 (Rose) for Smoove. I'd do it in a heartbeat. That probably delays any progress in terms of our winning percentage another year, but I think gives us a much higher ceiling. I think Acie Law will be a fine PG, but Rose could be something really special.
  10. Quote: Zaza/Speedy/2009 2nd rounder for Brad Miller. Sacramento would laugh at this proposal. With everyone here posting trades that involve Speedy, that just shows that we don't can't REALISTICALLY add a piece of this caliber without breaking up the core. We're reaching way deep in the bag to try to give Speedy some value. You could offer to trade me Speedy for $2 and a jawbreaker, but all that gets me at the end of the day is a debt of $5,999,998 and a hankering for another jawbreaker. Let's face it, all the trading chips we had went out the door to get Bibby.
  11. I'm surprised to see him say that Kidd is a lock to be the starting PG and CP3 is on the bubble to even make the team. Here would be my Olympic roster: Starting: Chris Paul Kobe Bryant LeBron James Carlos Boozer Dwight Howard Bench: Deron Williams Michael Redd Dwyane Wade Paul Pierce Kevin Garnett Chris Bosh And I might even give the last spot to Josh Smith
  12. Quote: From my understanding his biggest problem was just not putting it all together night in and night out. We hardly need another guy with this problem.
  13. Not that we should be surprised. Somebody just offered the janitor a 2 year contract to be headmaster, what would you do? http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/h...odson_0613.html
  14. Quote: 1. Joe Johnson's game 4 4th quarter 2. Game 3 of playoffs(1st playoff home game in a decade) 3. 1st game of the season against Dallas 4. Contriversal game against toronto late in the season 5. any dunk or black by smoove I'd add sold out home wins against Dallas and Phoenix early in the season. Wasn't quite the playoff atmosphere, but we did have a solid electricity in the building to start the year.
  15. Quote: Top 5 Draft Picks. 1. Smoove. 2. Horf. 3. Willis 4. Chillz 5. Augmon It's pretty bold to say, for a franchise that's been around 50+ years, that 3 of the top 5 draft choices are currently on the team.
  16. I'd take Bibby and Marvin for Redd all day. I think someone else then suggested a S&T of Chilldress for TJ Ford. We'd definitely have to try to bring some depth to the bench in free agency, but that's a solid line-up: Ford Redd JJ Smith Horford
  17. Quote: - A scout saw something in Josh Smith and told BK to take a chance where 15 or so other teams passed up on him and had no earthly clue about his potential. This one isn't entirely accurate. A lot of people thought Josh Smith could have been a top 10 pick if he'd gone to college for a year, but a lot of teams saw him as a risk straight out of high school. He wasn't exactly a sleeper.
  18. I can't believe this drama queen. Gets carried off the court by his teammates to his wheelchair, towel covering his face because he's screaming in so much pain, only to come back out on the court 2 minutes later. They should call these guys the Big P's, cause Pierce is a (well it's been mentioned) and KG is a punk (as are Cassell and Perkins). The only guys on that team that I have even the slightest respect for are Rondo, Big Baby, PJ Brown, and Ray Allen.
  19. What's even more depressing is that there are only 3 active coaches with NBA championships (this season - not counting Larry Brown). That means every other team is trying to get their coach his first.
  20. Salim isn't going to be back. Mark it down.
  21. Quote: My trade is the 3 way I proposed on 5/22. We send off Marv/Zaza. We get back Miller/Lowry. I was surprised I had to read that far down to see this one.
  22. This is my concern with Woody staying on a year. Larry Drew and one other assistant (can't remember which one) tried to leave after last year. Now they're no longer under contract and are free to leave if they choose. So let's say ASG gives Woody the one year extension. He'll likely have to bring in 2 new assistants. If it doesn't work out, then we can Woody and bring in a whole new coaching staff after another year. That constant change over the next 2 years just doesn't sit well with me having a bunch of young guys on the team. I'd rather just cut ties and start fresh with a new coaching staff that can stick around a few years.
  23. Quote: True. I half way expected it to get worse???? In that case lateral isn't half bad? If you believe the rumors that BK was a difficult GM for other execs to deal with, then different might mean better (at least in terms of opening up some closed doors). Now, of course, BK could have gotten that reputation because the owners wouldn't sign on the dotted line after he got his handshake agreement with another GM.
  24. 1) Quote: # 1979: Selected by Norm Sonju as director of player personnel for a proposed expansion team in Dallas. At 28, became the youngest in league history to hold that position. # 1986-87: Presided over Mavericks team that won a franchise-record 55 games before losing to Sonics in first round of playoffs. Mavericks matched or improved their record in each of the franchise's first eight seasons. Hawks owners probably look at this and see that he can continue the upward trend we've had since nearly being an expansion-type franchise with our rebuilding 4 years ago. 2) Quote: President Wally Walker has final say on basketball decisions, and principal owner Howard Schultz has set consensus as a priority in the franchise's decisions. If you're going to get anything done with this ownership group, you have to be skilled in consensus-building.
  25. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3414910 Doesn't look like anyone wants this job after talking to the ASG about it. Turns out that little thing about not having any control over the coach or the roster is a big deal for GM candidates.
