9ers set record for running the ball the LEAST with >6 Yards per carry, only 22 times. Why abandon what got you there, and stop playing to Garapalo's main strength (handing the ball off to let the real playmakers carry the load)?
Capela or Adams can be super effective with Trae and make Collins even better. I would hope to see how that works the rest of this season were a trade for either Clint or Steven to materialize before thinking about trading Collins for JJJ
He also can't space the floor with the ability to hit from 3, something the Hawks offense relies on from every position especially with the wings shooting ~ 30-33% from 3.
Could the Hawks be contenders if it were built with Trae, Cam, and JC and top notch defensive role players like the Pistons back in the day? (Still hoping Hunter develops into the defensive player many expected) Cam already is above average defensive player and progressing offensively
Man, I really don't want to think about doing that. I like both guys but Collins might end up being better all around than Towns while obviously the inferior offensive player were he to be paired with a legit starting C
For me Drummond is only worth what Capela is getting. His market value should be way under 30 but still would probably be more than Capela currently getting solely due to the demand for starting Cs in the league.
Whiteside seems to be one of those guys big on nimbers, small on locker room presence. Agree with you on Portland players. If that culture infected Turner, who previously seemed to be a good guy in the locker room, than imagine would it has done to Whiteside, who already had issues previously in Miami.
The key is under team control at what is now attractive contract for a center through 2022-23. This means he can't walk after less than half a season, justifying possibly giving up a first rounder to acquire him. Would not give up Collins in the deal though. To me, thats a non starter you want Capela at C for Collins to be PF full time. Capela to me is more attractive than Drummond because he has a high motor and can do more than just rebound better than everybody else.
Gray I agree with you..
"Too any things have gone wrong this season. Injuries. Suspension. Lack of experience. It all adds up. "
To this I would add 'unmet expectations' especially for Len. 2nd half of last year he was a knockdown shooter and I suspect TS expected that trend to continue and for depth he traded Spellman for Jones. I have to think Jones has regressed or become the worst case TS envisioned. I think Schlenk did expect to win at about the same level or just slightly above last year. But everything that could have gone wrong pretty much has : Injuries, suspension, rawness of youth, unrealized expectations, and underperforming veterans Turner and Crabbe. Coach Pierce has been dealt a poor hand I don't see how he can be blamed when he walks near a trip wire with this injury depleted and inexperienced rotation combined with a lack of veteran help.
The 2019 draft was the first top 5 pick that came as a result of rebuilding, the 2018 draft was a top 5 pick that came as a result of tearing down the absolute mess that was left behind by the Bud as GM debacle
I would love for the Hawks to make the playoffs but considering what they have gone through as you stated well, if they exceed last season's win total that would be a major accomplishment, just getting to 30 wins and missing the playoffs.
